question on tracking

The manual says that the breakin period is 1,500 miles my car has only 680 should I wait before tracking the car.

Also does anyone know where to get an approved helment for under 150.00.

I had my car on track at 300 miles. Change the oil and diff fluid before though and go for it.

Check out summit racing, they have lots of choices in helmets.

I subscribe to the break it in how you're gonna drive it club... Hammer on it, it'll love every second of it (you will too). Take it to the track, you're good to go.
As for helmets... Summit is probly the cheapest place, unless you have a local race shop which I'm sure you probly do in GA.

I was on the track with just over 600 miles on the car. I changed the oil at 500 miles, installed stainless steel brake lines, separated the clutch resevoir from the brake resevoir and put in DOT 4 brake and clutch fluid. All that was done prior to my first race. I've since raced three more times and with 2500 miles now on the car I have no problems at all. I do change the oil between each race though.

Helmetcity.com has good selection, bought mine it was too small and they paid for return shipping. Great customer service.

Mine was on the dyno, drag strip and road course with around 1000 miles.

$150?is that all your head is worth to you? In all seriousness don't skimp on the safety equipment. I picked up my last Bell Sport on amazon for $279 shipped

You can also buy tires called Leon Lion that are DOT approved.....but I wouldn't put them on my car. IMO if you have stretched your budget so thin to be able to purchase a 1LE (even used $30K) and you can't afford a decent helmet, you need to reevaluate your finances.

I spelled it wrong, but yes...Not in our size, just trying to stress a point in regards to safety

There's really nothing a helmet is going to offer in a car the has a ton of airbags. I mean really, what is my head going to hit... If I were racing motorcycles or a car without airbags, then that's a different story. Plus, many of the REALLY good helmets aren't Snell rated, making them illegal.

Wow, even in Canada the english is horrible. Plus the spelling. Yeah, I'm all over a set of those, for more safety.

From your comment it is apparent you don't spend a lot of time at a road course. Even with airbags your head can hit the roof when a car flips. If your airbags fail to deploy (seen it) you can of course hit the roof line, or window. Finally there is always the omnipresent second impact after the airbags have deployed and the car continues across track into more Armco or is hit by another car. Even more important is how the helmet absorbs the shock internally.

But you are right. It will never happen to you, just buy a cheap one

got a $100 head, buy a $100 helmet, what can go wrong at a race track? You'll spend more than that on gas for the weekend.

I have been looking at http://www.compacc.com/ and they seem to have plenty of options at a price that most companies can't touch. So if you want a Bell, HJC, Shoei, etc they seem to have the big names as well as some "lesser known" names. I personally like to stick to the major manufacturers when it comes to safety, but to each their own. So if you really want that $69 LS2 helmet that they have on closeout this may be the place for you.

If someone has seen better pricing please post it here as I think we all would be interested in getting the best deal.

He asked for a $150 dollar helmet so I suggested one. No need to turn it into flame war. It fits my needs and everybody's needs are different. The threats at my venue will be different than at other venues.

What diff fluid do you guys use? If not using GM fluid, I suppose you need to add the friction modifier?

I used Mobil 1 but I will be switching to Red Line. Just check the bottle, it will say if it has the friction modifier in it.

The number #1 threat at all venues is the driver.

Be carefull about motorcycle helmets, a lot of events wont allow them.

Indeed, motorcycle helmets are designed for different kinds of impact like very high speed impacts that might happen if you drop the bike at high speed. Hence, they will have a harder shell, which provides less protection at lower speeds or in the car.
