That's unusual, K&N's typically have quite a growl and add volume/depth to exhaust just like any other CAI. Not the best out there by far, but definitely not quiet.

I have a magnaflow cat back w/ K&N, not sure if it is outlaw though. anyway.... I think mine got a little louder after the K&N, definitely not quieter though.

My exhaust is different than yours (I have the GMPP borla touring axleback) but my K&N intake made it louder/deeper compared than the stock air-box. Strange that yours did the opposite.

Intakes have 0 affect on your exhaust. What you hear is the actual intake of air the stock box silences.

Like the others have said, an intake shouldn't effect the volume of your exhaust. It definitely shouldn't reduce sound as an aftermarket intake will not include silencers and baffles like the stock intake.
