LS3 for Camaro announced at meeting!

there was a exe. meeting in durham and my ****** was in attendance and called me soon after... some notes worth mentioning... the ls3 will be in the 2009 launched camaro in some available trim, the 6 cyl is DI unit, at least the front brakes will be 4 piston, there will be a remote start keyfob, the gas filler door will not be above the fender line, the headlight arrangement , grill, side marker lamps, and auxillary foglights have yet to be finalized... AND there will be a non legal/non-road-going camaro avalible to dealers and race teams, the engine, and drivetrain is un-announced but will be limited to production of less than 500 units

the meeting was held in the durham - whitby - oshawa region, my ******, _____, currently resides in the rural whitby region and is a ______ ______ of the oshawa based GMNAAC he has worked in and around the oshawa GM plant and was there to help recieve the awards for outstanding quality from J.D power Canada. there is no written or published documents of this new info, this is as of 02/02/08

no didn't say, those were the only concrete detials, i'm pretty excited to see the use of the ls3 in the camaro i had the chance of driving the c6 'vette and what a great engine, the ls2 was good, but the delivery and refinement is so smooth, the seating position took away from the experience, the seats sort of broke the connection between you and the car, but the camaro should overcome this, hopefully

Well, I hope you are right! And in the event that you are right...I hope that the LS3 is the base V8...but for some reason, I get the feeling that it won't be... Most of those things we were already guessing...the 4 piston brakes, the remote start key fob, the gas filler door...so I don't really know what to make of that...Anyone in high places know when things like engine/drivetrain will be made public? I'm not trying to be abnoxious...i'm just curious!

Well Cap'n, nothing in your story seems to conflict. There are a few members here that should know if what you report is true (Fbodfather, 3whiterag, Camero, 80Zedder), but confirming things is another issue. But I trust you. Just wanted to know if you could confirm things for us. Like I said earlier, it all sounds reasonable, its what we've been expecting.

That's what I was thinking. Did he say you could post this info? Along with his name? If they wanted to find out how everyone found out about the LS3, how many (your cousin's name)'s could there have been at that meeting?

I had to sign up, after some speculation and observation I think I am ready to hop on. You should probably delete ur cousins name and the people that repeated it didn't make it easy for him. As for the truth of this, didn't Fbod say to not expect something we knew or something along those lines.

Haha im getting the ATX...it will be very nice i think lol...It would be nice if the people that knew could give discrete ques like a single smiley face or something to that extent...it doesnt seem to hard to leave a discrete clue, or even forward it though someone else...Anyways its nice to be on...

my backround is italian and my cousin is also full blooded italian
hes a senior member i doubt "they" would distrust him what i've said are olny concrete details i don't see as a point to getting hopes up and posting
i do believe that the ls3 is a pretty important detail if anyone has driven the the new c6 vette go take a drive its much smoother then the ls2 and much more linear...

it makes sense for the ls3 to be the v8 in the camaro for example in previous camaros about one to two years after an engine update in a corvette the engine was base in the camaro...lt1, ls1 anyone? and the ls3 was put into the vette 2006-07 and the camaro is coming out 2009-10

I guess it is somewhat possible to believe...for some reason ( nothing against you) I can't believe it though, the G8's l76 after quick online pricing is almost $1.5k less in price...I don't know maybe the interior won't match the quality of the G8 but it might be hard to keep it under 30k for the Camaro...Plus the fact you just mentioned some new Gen V engine...I don't know...when is the production model supposed to debut, is it going to be in New York?

Man, with just a little browsing I found some serious HiPo stuff for the LS3.

Hmmm All I can say is Eaton MP122...

Damnit, I just have to believe that there will be a supercharged version of the Camaro. I don't see how they can put a blown engine in the CTS-V and not in the Camaro. I'm repeating myself, I know.

But a luxury Sports Sedan should not have more power than a pure Sports Coupe.

Am I alone on this one???

honestly i think im going to have to disagree with you on this...there is a sports sedan market ... and also because the v is a growing tradition in the SCCA and because the older generation wants cadillacs... but midlife crisis...sports cars but needs a sedan... hello cts-v... having a supercharged camaro would probably bring the price up... attract more cops... insurance up and it would then be in corvette territory... this might happen when the c7 vette comes out...because CAFE standards and technical global emission standards (something like that)...gm wants to make brand more global but cant because of certian vehicles mainly the corvette ... so there are a couple different options... corvette becoming its own brand or being discontinued to name a few (info from motortrend) would allow global brand chevrolet
