Thumbs down My Nightmare Experience with lethal racing

This is painfully long but it is only the facts about my personal experience with Lethal Racing over 2 years and I do have many e-mails, text and photos. This is in NO way meant to be any reflection of how they may treat others. I know they have treated others very well I used to be one of those. I wish you the best of luck with your choices. I know I am not their only customer but with the money I spent and the positive post I posted over the past couple years I should not have been treated like this. Check my history on the forum.

I will start out by saying I received Great customer service and pricing early on when I decided to let Lethal racing work on my car. I started with just a Super charger and it was good. Not long after I started added mod after mod and during this time their popularity was also growing so the trade off was the service was beginning to suffer but that was a sacrifice I was willing to pay to stay with them as they had been the only one to touch my car and I felt that was important.

Now for the problems and there were many. This is long going to be long enough so I will only give details on the last one but will note the ones leading up to it showing a pattern if there are problems with their work and how you are then treated. No problems and its all good but wait till the problems come up.

1st issue was after they installed my Super Chiller the IAT’s would not come down and they would not help so I was on my own with the help of the forum for about 6 months. Finally after all attempts failed they agreed to check it and found the wires had been hooked up WRONG to the sensors when they had installed the Maggie. This is a fact and not opinion..

Later had the Night Fury cam installed and after about a month when I finally picked up the car noticed it was hard to start and they said it was due to the gage left on for my super chiller.. That gage has its own battery like a watch battery and has nothing to do with the car being hard to start. It also ran so hot under the hood I had plastic melting and dripping with smoke coming out the hood. They said that’s just how it is so I changed to coated headers, better radiator and retuned my fans for some relief.

Next my car broke on the line at the track. They were nice enough to trailer it to their shop and give me a ride which I do appreciate but we thought I had busted my differential. They were to inspect it so I would know if I could replace the internals with True-Trac of if I had housing damage. After inspection they said housing will be ok so I asked them to order the True-Trac. After about 3 weeks of no car and several calls I finally asked could I get the parts since they said they could not seem to get them in and they said yes so I ordered the True-Trac and had it in a few days. Finally they would now fix my car but when they called me they had good and bad news. Good news my rear differential was not broke, only a bad axle. They supposedly had checked this 3 weeks ago before I ordered a new differential and I had a new set of axles at their shop so they could have swapped them and gave me back my car in a couple days and a couple thousand dollars less if they had only checked the damage. They did say I could return parts but by now I was so deep into it was it even worth it??

Last and hopefully final issue with Lethal Racing. It started when I mentioned my car seemed to not have the top end some of the other cars had at my power / ET level. 10.40 @130 ish.. I had only made 6 passes at current HP level and running LPE twin, ID850, and Alky twin nozzle meth for fuel. LR suggested a tune adjustment and I allowed which was basically turning off fail safes so it would not pull any timing. Went back to the track and 1st pass mid 4th gear engine blew!! I am not saying it had anything to do with LR or the tune but. So I brought the car to my house and not to Lethal Racing. My plan was to find another option going forward. Several days later after talking with them I made my biggest mistake ever. I let them talk me into bringing the car to them. How did they talk me into that after all my other experiences? They promised me they would work with me on the cost (help me out) and have my car back to me in a month so I agreed against my better judgment. (Feb.) It took weeks before I could even get with them to talk about what I needed and what were my options. I had to drive over there as all other communication was useless. I set up a meeting and discussed what I wanted and we agreed on it. ERL with Twin turbo’s so I paid LR the deposit then to start and they would have work done in a month. A couple days later LR called me and said “416 is not available for several weeks and they suggest I go with the 427 that is in stock so they can get my car done” I was concerned and expressed the additional cost of $2000 but they assured me the month completion of car so I agreed to pay. 1 week later 427 and turbo received. 4 weeks later not started so I drove back over and discussed my concern new date of 1 month, 4 weeks not started and I drove back over and we did this a 3rd time. After about 10-12 weeks of LR refusing to start on my car after having my money I decided to take them up on an offer they made. Put a stock LS3 back in it if I was ready to maybe just get out of it and sell so asked was this still an option and they never answered so after weeks went by I went back over there and worked that out. During this path they sent me several estimates and I continued to point out overcharges, duplicate charges and I was told they would be fixed. Finally on May 31 my car was ready to pick. When I arrived I was given the bill and asked to look over it and let him know what I didn’t agree with. I made the comment “your screwing me” and at that time Shawn went ballistic and jumped up out of his chair screaming and cussing and threatening me and telling me how much he had done for me and how ungrateful I was and how anyone else would have charged me double. Untrue and here’s the proof, I had a new L99 installed from GM with a 36 month, 100,000 warranty for less than he charged me and I have all receipts to prove this. He forced me to leave the property without paying Stephen and when I tried said LR was paying him. They kept my G-force axles, ID850, Meth system, True Trac, 1 of the couplers for my driveshaft (I asked them to at least give me this and they would not even answer me), lowering springs, Trans, cooler, radiator and still claimed I owe him. I did not agree on any of the pricing and was not giving an opportunity to discuss, I did NOT sign any work agreement either. Also within 200 miles the engine that I was grossly overcharged on failed and when I tried to contact them they would not answer my calls so I left a message. Their reply came from their attorney. Used motor sold as is any future correspondence contact the attorney. I also have considerable damage to my car while in their shop. I have the photos. Numerous dents from installing the side rockers, dented front fender like something fell on it and from the way they park cars underneath others something dripped onto the roof of mine and damaged the paint.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my next
Track fix.

If these performance shop just took a little extra time to explain what is covered and what isn't, a lot of these misunderstandings could be avoided. Damage to your car, however, is unacceptable. You don't mention that you brought that to their attention, and how they responded to it.

I was not able to inspect car or work done. I was threatened and physically ran off property told never to return. Bill settled! I did not agree but under circumstances I had no choice but to obey.

Wow. Nothing's changed here on C5 I can see lol. Feels like I read about shops screwing people daily and too many dick riders spreading the false info.

OP sorry to hear man I went through something very similar. Hope it all works out.

Just curious, was there any firearms involved?
