Stock 2011 Camaro SS 15.2 Seconds 1/4 Mile

Hi,

I just picked up a 2011 Camaro SS and I am only running a 15.2 second quarter mile. This is in Denver, CO I know I am loosing some horse power because of the high altitude, but it seems like I'm having problems getting off the line.

I turn off TC and SC by pressing the button for 7-8 seconds. I also move it into manual but leave it in sport mode.

I also tried manually using the paddle shifters, and I did like a 15.3.

This is just a stock SS, so maybe this is acceptable. I just wanted to make sure I am going things right before I put performance mods on so I can track how well they are helping.

Post in the Colorado section I know there are some guys that do some serious drag racing, I'm sure they can help you.

My race car slowed down 1 full second from Sonoma (sea level) to denver. Slower cars will slow down more. Still you need to work on getting off the line better. Its not easy.

He's losing almost 2.5 seconds off a sea level run though, I'm up here in Denver now and it's a tad slower but not 2.5 seconds worth.

He's prob roasting the hell out of the tires off the line would be my guess, or missing his shift points.

I don't burn out the tires. Also, as I posted above I am turning off TC and SC and moving the auto shifter into M which puts the car into sports Mode (S), which is still automatic. Some people in another forum where posting that was the most effective. I tried paddle shifters, but they didn't seem to have a huge impact on speed.

I'll hit up the people in Colorado they have a big facebook presence, and I actually met a few at the track yesterday. I just figured I'd ask in the general forums.

Bandimere is very slow due to the elevation, but I'm sure with a little more practice you should at least be running in the 14's. Post the time slips and we can tell you what is really happening.

Best regards,

Tyler

Thanks Tyler,

Fuse Pull. Fuse 5 and 20 in engine compartment for 3 hours at least and run the highest octane gas you can get. If you are running anything under 91 octane that is part of the issue. If the car ever had lower octane in it, it is now in the low octane tables and will not come back out. Run a couple tanks of high octane 91 or higher thru her and then do the fuse pull and then go back to the track.

Oh that could be, the dealer gave me a "free tank of gas". Thanks for the info, I found the information about how to do this.

2.4 60 foot says you're spinning a ton off the line. that is killing your time. Getting down to a 2.0 will knock at least half a second off your run

I'm racing again tonight. It doesn't 'feel' like I am spinning but tonight I'll have people watching to see how much I'm spinning. I'm meeting up with a few of the Denver Camaro Club folks, hopefully they have some good advice, I'll post an update so others with the same problem can learn

Stock tires, 25 psi
Long first burnout in the water
Usually I had to gradually floor the gas so as not to spin
1.95 on stock tires, 13.15@106 near sea level
