Engine covers

Is it just me or does anyone else think the whole engine cover thing is silly? They look really tacky and cheap to me, no offense intended. I see a lot of people getting custom painted engine covers when I think a nice pair of valve covers would look 1000 times better. Surely I'm not alone in this. Mine landed in the dumpster the night I brought the car home.

I kind of agree, I still have mine on, I don't really care to dress up the engine compartment anyway, I just keep it clean, I'm about to mod it so the visible mods, upgrades to intercooler, CAI, meth kit maybe, will sort of speak for themselves.

On this subject, I think the whole faux carbon fiber thing is worse than an engine cover. It's like this, carbon fiber, actual carbon fiber, is light weight and strong. Great. But since someone can't afford that, and in some cases it would be stupid, they add stickers to existing parts, there by actually increasing the weight of the part. Only by a hair, but still, I refused to pay an extra $170 to have a faux carbon fiber finish sticker put on my CAI. I have a buddy who has put the stuff all over his car. Looks tacky.

Totaly agree. Dump the cover and clean up the motor. The cover was designed to cover up one hell of a mess. Doesn't take a heck of a lot to get your motor looking good. Rerouting the heater lines is one big move. Nice CIA, Vlave covers, Coil Covers, braided lines, Cleaning up Injector wires, Etc.

Now those are some great looking engine bays! I was going to put my annual profit share towards a supercharger, but getting caught in a hail storm yesterday has put a dent literally in my fun money. Trying to figure out how to make lemonade..

Wouldn't insurance cover that?
(If you have it)

I do, I'm not sure I want to make a claim. My insurance just got back to a reasonable price.
