Bummed with the Camaro community after driving a Corvette for the weekend

Maybe it's because it's a 2013 Corvette 427 convertible, but I've been driving said vehicle since Friday as part of GM's Vehicle Ambassador program that GM employees can participate in.

The #1 thing I've been really surprised about is that almost every single Corvette I passed on the road, the other driver waved. At first it threw me off -- I forgot I was driving another Vette and that's why they were waving. When I first started driving my 5th gen, I used to always wave and most of the time I wouldn't get any wave back so I stopped doing it. Have to say - I always thought the Vette community was a bunch of snobs, but after driving this Vette for the past 3 days I'm realizing they're more friendly on the road than my Camaro family is. :(

My resolution is that after I turn the Vette back in, I'm going to make it a point to wave at other Camaros and Firebirds again, hopefully I get more waves back!

Picture of the 427 Vette with my '94 Camaro. When I reserved it, I only knew it was a 427 - I didn't know it was red with black stripes. I wish I had my 5th gen at home (I left it in the parking structure when I picked up the Vette) so I could have gotten a picture with both Camaros and the Vette all being red with black stripes.

That's one of the better looking sub-'98 fourth gens I've seen, and I was an LS1 snob who tends not to like red cars, lol.

I got a wave back from a 67 vert today.
The Camaro community here has been pretty friendly.

Likely because only a small portion of the Camaro "family" are actually car enthusiasts. It's just a car to many people. That's not the case with Corvettes. Motorcycle riders are largely the same way.

I get just as many waves from car guys (Mustangs, Challengers, etc.) as I do other Camaros.

Yeah it kind of surprised me at first - I wasn't "looking" for other Vettes so when I was driving up a popular cruising strip (Woodward ave in Michigan) I thought I saw a guy in a C3 Vette wave at me but I wasn't sure so I just keep on cruising. It was only today that I encountered like 5 vettes cruising around that I realized they were all waving, each and every one of them

What can I say, we're all a bunch of A holes that don't like to wave to each other.

What if there was a wave unique for Camaros that we all knew? Hold up five fingers for fifth gen, but then the 67-69 guys will be giving everyone the finger, so maybe we hold off on that for now.

I e owned two vettes and seldom missed a wave. I used to wave at all camaros. I quit a while when it became obvious most camaro owners don't wave.

It's interesting seeing the similarity of those two bodies side by side. Chevy really made a clear distinction with the Gen 5 Camaro body.

Now if only all those ghetto cruisers...err I mean Chargers would get off the street so I could quit mistaking them for fellow Camaros at first glance.

Here is the short version of why. Go to ANY Vette gathering in ANY year Vette and you are welcomed with open arms.

Try that in a Camaro.

You have the anti 5th gen it isn't an Fbody crowd

You have the oh it's a V6 or V8 crowd

You have the it's a manual VS A6 crowd

You have the daddy must have bought it crowd

You have the their in "that other club" crowd

The list goes on and on. The Camaro community in general has more cliques than high school did.

I wave most times but forget sometimes..but when i do wave most of the times i dont get a wave back..depends on how "stuck up" for lack of a better term certian owners are..have only gotten one wave from a vette owner only because i knew the driver...sometimes certian camaro owners are a bit stuck up and full of them selves...i was in my civic one day and saw a couple driving an Rs..they had the black replica rims that i was looking into..i asked them where they got them from and they answered "the internet' in a snotty way rather than in a helpfull way...i think one day i shut them up when i showed up to star bucks in my SS....(this isnt an RS VS SS rant btw)..so yea it depends on the drivers etc

Its really because there are less hardcore enthusiasts who own the Camaros out there nowadays as its become increasingly popular, more affordable (V6s, model bases in the low to mid 20Ks), and those who own a vette are willing to pay more money for the ride so its clear that they have a passion for the ride. I love seeing other Camaros on the road and try to wave when I can, however I usually don't get the love back nowadays which is unfortunate.
