The dealership told me i need to change my whole stereo because...

Hey guys!

So 2 days ago I was going to turn up the volume and the rubber that covers the volume knob ripped and its loose now, so i took it to the dealership to get a new one but the guy told me they're gonna have to change the whole stereo because they dont have that part!!

Anyone faced something like this and what should i do?
I attached a pic so you guys can take a look.
Thanks

You have to be kidding me, please post the name of this Dealership (STEALERSHIP) and location, if the part wasn't in Im sure they could order it...NOT REPLACE THE WHOLE STEREO, You can even go aftermarket...a buddie of mine removed them, when you do the RED lighting under glows and matches his interior lighting

Hmm. Noticed your other knobs are also worn down, pretty damn bad. You the original owner?

Sounds like your B2B has expired...

If you could figure out where the unit was manufactured, you could email them a pic and see if they could send you a new knob.

But your best bet is probably to try and find a unit that someone took out when they upgraded their sound system and buy it cheap.

LOL the other one is perfectly fine it must be a bad angle or sunlight or something, the volume knob is my only issue!

Your car still has the bumper to bumper warranty and they're going to make you pay for the radio?

It's part of what they call 'control' . It has the HVAC and radio display . Separate from the actaul radio.

Easy - if it's covered then let them change it out. Easy to swap head units in our cars. If it's not covered then either buy a billet cover or a used radio on ebay/for sale section here.

I've heard of this before & you cannot buy that specific piece OEM from GM.

It's only available thru a radio center.

Wear and tear under normal use is never covered under warranty. I know that's a close up picture but that thing looks pretty beat up. How in the hell that damage can happen from turning up the volume is a mystery. Were you turning the knob w/ a C clamp?

No steering wheel controls? I never touch my actual volume button. Of course I know the same thing will happen to my steering wheel cintrols because constantly am flipping statins on them.

I was thinking the same thing, but that he was using vice grips. I use the steering wheel to change the volume (So my knob still shines!!! hehe).

You don't need a new stereo. They are just going to replace the head unit - which is solely because you can't order that individual part.
