Airbag Disable for Track use?

This thread is for those of you that have tracked or Auto x your 1LE Camaro specifically....(Not other SS as I want to get a feel for what the 1LE owners are doing as I wonder if our software could be different)

Have you disabled the airbag system in your 1LE before putting it out on the track and if so, How did you do it? (pull fuses?)

I am sure we have all seen the Camaro "drift" video and heard of other vehicles having the side airbags deploy during spirited driving....I am friends with the GM engineer that had his CTS-V bags pop while on an auto cross course last summer.

Obviously, on a 1LE with sticky tires sold as a track or handling package this should not be a concern.....but it is and I think I will be pulling my fuses? Thoughts?

Thanks,
Matt

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that putting the car in "competitive mode" (double click the TC button), will allow you to do all the spirited driving or drifting you want without danger of the airbags deploying.

If that is true that is good to know.

Thanks

I was there when the CTS-V deployed it's airbags. I was competing in the same event with my '11 SS.

I'm not sure I would want to have to pull my airbag fuses because if (god forbid) anything ever did happen while I was out on a track I think I'd want the air bags active to help me walk away from the incident.

But I have read about this concern in the past with the air bags deploying due to G's seen on the track with the 1LE's.

It is a double edged sword....I am weighing both options but may be leaning towards leaving them functional as the car is bone stock, stock tires and sold as a "handling package". I don't have a doubt GM would warranty it if they deployed (being all stock) and would find it funny that a "handling package" car would have airbags deploy while it was handling at its limit, but I don't really want to deal with that headache or potential battle with them.

Unfortunately, it appears you have to be a tech to view the schematics of the fuses.
