L99 burnout problem

not what you are thinking, with 700+ miles on mine today I decided I would see how easy it is to spin the tires, I dropped it down to M mode and put it into competition mode and power braked it, nothing, bogged terribly, so I pushed the TC button and shut off competition mode, it roasted them
I let off after about 3 seconds and proceeded to leave about 75' of black stripes behind me

Now the problem

well it probably burned about 1,000 miles of rubber off of the tires and threw rubber all over both inner quarters just like a muscle car should

just a FYI if you guys are wondering like I was, yes it will do it and tires can get expensive quickly!

Sorry I dont have pics but I just intended to turn them a little not roast the piss out of them

Once yoiu turned TC off did you power brake again? For me to lay rubber I need to power brake to ~2,200 rpms.

You know what they say. Smoke em' if you got em'

Could you roast em' without the brake? Just punch the throttle and spin the tires?

I was able to do the brake stand and turn mine but it won't without the brake.

There are very few factory automatic cars of any type that will roast the tires by just nailing the throtle. Power braking is the only way esspecially with the new Camaro, it is built with traction in mind.
If you are spinning the tires while racing you are just wasting time. The Camaro vs the GT500 video is a perfect example but the GT500 higher horsepower takes over once the tires stop spinning.

I love watching people do burnouts. Thought about doing them till I found out from my dealer that the Pirrellis are $450 a tire and as of now that's only brand of tire to go on our 20's. Just wandering is this true that these are our only options for tires or is my dealers parts department just feeding me full of BS?

there are plenty of tires that will fit and if you are looking for a cheaper tire you can always get truck or suv tires in the same dimensions the only problem is most likely they will be a bit heavier. and there are other car performance tires out and more to come

My 6300lb 4.8L ext cab 4x4 Silverado will smoke 'em without doing a brake stand.
Did it today on 87 degree asphalt. Nice long black streak! ...and I did it beside a rice out Mazda one of my co workers drives!

I cannot get a long track of rubber, the best my car will provide is a few tire chirps. I went to the track last night too and it was weird. All 8 races my 60' times were in the 2.2 range but my first three races were 13.9, 13.8, 13.7...my last 5 races were all 14.3s.

The last race I had a 1-1/2 car length lead on a stock 2002 TransAm. It ended up pulling on me and caught me at the end with a 13.8 to my 14.3. So even though I launched well with a huge lead he caught me. It was like my car less power all the way down the track. I raced the same car on my 13.7 run and beat him. What could be causing these inconsistancies?
