Royal purple vs mobile 1 extended performance?

Is royal really worth the extra penny?

If so, is there any way to get it cheaper then what im seeing at pepboys? $9.99 a quart

If I was spending that much money for oil, I would go amsoil. Royal is sketchy IMO. Mobil isn't what it used to be, but it's not awful.

Muscle Cars

I use Amsoil in all my cars except the Challenger. The only reason I use Moblie 1 in it Amsoil don't offer 0W-40 for it.

royal purple does make a true synthetic with high anti wear additives. They also make a filtered dyno with synthetic additives and market it as a synthetic. FYI mobil one is not a synthetic, but if you are under warranty and the dealership sees a purple dyed oil they can void your powertrain warranty.

i have used gibbs and amsoil under extreme conditions. I was really happy with amsoil z-rod but I dont know if i can recommend it for non cammed cars. I am going to run amsoil domintor for my next track day on the first. It is red and I was unhappy about that but it is high in antiwear (not as high as zrod) but has a higher shear rating. I also cant say i recommend this for non track situations. these high in antiwear material oils also kill your cats fyi.

It all depends on how long you want to keep the car. Also how hard you are on it. A good oil WILL lengthen the life of the various fluid taking components of your drivetrain.

If you need a lower cost brand litle has said vr1 and he is right. I wouldnt run that in a modified car or on the track.

inform yourself and choose goodluck

mobil 1 is not a synthetic, yet it states full synthetic on the bottle? It definitely isn't conventional oil like mobil 1 5000, what exactly is mobil 1 full synthetic?

It may not be a true "synthetic" but its far from a normal conventional.
Anyone that calls Mobil 1 a non synthetic really has no idea. The point is completely irrelevant.

thats what i'm asking, if it isn't synthetic, how can mobil say it is a full synthetic? Maybe amsoil, royal purple should be called super duper synthetics, lol.

The base lubricant that they start with to make the oil, Mobil 1 uses a group III base not a Group IV base to build its "full synthetic".

I'm running Torco SR-1 in mine.

http://www.torcousa.com/

I've got Royal Purple gear oil in the trans and diff but I'm planning to switch to Torco for those too. Royal Purple isn't bad, it's just that I like Torco better. Torco isn't cheap; it's $11.99 a bottle but it works as advertised.

I was told from an Amsoil dealer in town that Mobil 1 uses a group III base, but the Mobil 1 Extended Performance uses a Group IV.

The guy seemed pretty knowledgeable.
