Well, as usual, the dealer is worthless. After this Camaro, I am done with Chevy. I hate to say it but yeah. We have only ever owned GM cars and currently own 4 of them. Of those 4, 3 of them have a lifter tick (All LS based motors) and the Camaro is the newest.

The dealer just called and said "Well, we can't hear it so there is nothing we can do for you"

Awesome! So now I have a POS sounding vehicle on startup. GREAT advertising, morons.

i have never owned an ls based engine that didn't have some lifter noise, the l99 in my camaro is by far the quietest ls engine i have owned, i remember the ls1 nightmares with piston slap

Oh I remember that too haha. Admittedly the Camaro is the quietest but you'd think they work that out by now.

Its normal man. Every LS engine Ive ever had does it. These engines run significantly bigger cams than the engines back in the day. Gotta have a valvetrain that can support it. With more performance, luxury takes a back burner. Gotta figure, 400hp was a WELL built engine before these engines came out. Now its low on the spectrum. Gotta pay to play.

I figure I Might as well tune it, convert to an LS3 and put a cam in it anyway.

We still on for Saturday?

Same troubles with my dealer. More concerned on where igot the TSB than tending to the lifters. Ls3 conversion got it taken care of. :-)

Check this out it might be what your looking for. I was told a while ago that the pdf files of the TSBs were removed from the internet because of legal reasons, copyright or something like that.

I had to leave my car over night in order for them to here the ticking noise, then they replaced the AFM lifters and have not had any more ticking.

Good Luck,

Go get your car checked by the dealer - There is a Service Bulletin for replacing the lifters that was issued. - see this post http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...eplace+Service

I've got the same issue and they will be "repairing" mine in the coming weeks. If it's bothering you, it's something.

Well well well. The service guy and 3 techs and myself all just walked back to the shop. They were telling me that they've been trying like crazy to reproduce the sound but haven't been able to. I asked him to start it for me while we were all standing there.

One dude sat in the car and started it up. LOUD lifter tick. All of their jaws dropped and disbelief. I said "I told you!" And the service guy said ok well let's get a GM case number and let's get started on it.

Its going to get much louder with those headers installed! I'm not sure about installing at my house anymore. My garage is full of crap now because the realtor took some staged pics of the house. At anytime we can get a call from a realtor they are going to show the house, so we would have to leave. My wife is still going to az next week, so let me check when she's going, and we'll work it in around that.

Well, maybe I spoke too soon. The service guy just called and said they have to jump through some hoops to get GM to approve the repair and he will keep me posted. Yay.

Adam - Sounds good, dude. Let me know as the dealer will probably have my car until Monday. I can try to get my brother to help me at his house possibly.

Glad to hear they finally heard the lifters....I had the same problem, they just don't believe what you tell them. they think everyone is always making things up.

Okay well the car should be done today. GM approved the whole repair. Instead of just the AFM lifters the dealer decided to replace all of the lifters and put a new camshaft in it as well.

Hopefully it all went well. I'm supposed to pick it up around 4PM today.
