Just got cammed but need help

Hello

I recently volunteered to lend my car to be tested on and came out cammed
with a L99 comp cam vvt setup, just paid for discount labor and a few other things.

I have Kooks 1 7/8 headers, HF cats, CAI, Borla attack mufflers and tune.

But biggest concern is still have stock stall converter and I'm getting a small bucking slowing down from 2nd to 1st gear.

baseline dyno was 323rwhp and after install and tune 410 rwhp/392 tq, i have dyno sheet if needed.

What converter size your you recommend?

sounds sick but having a stock converter with a bigger cam shouldn't hurt your engine at all, you just get more low end power and you launch faster with a higher stall, also makes the car more street-able, but id recommend a 3200 stall that's your best bet IMO. unless you plan on FI soon.

Is it the VVT 1 or 2?

Either or I'd say a ~3200 from pro torque or yank.

Pm rhino79 he knows and tunes these VVT cams. You won't regret it either.

I would say it depends on what your car is used for. If its like most on here that sees mostly street duty and light to moderate track duty I would say run a 2800-3200. I would run closer to 2800 for the road course and the 3200 for the 1/4 mile. Good luck with your choices.

You dont have to go to a better stall. It is not going to hurt anything if you dont. But if you do not like that little bit of bucking and want one put in i would listen to the guys on here. That cam is a lot milder than mine and I run my stock converter and it does some bucking changing gears but it doesnt really bother me. Eventually i want a higher stall, but that is for me to break 12 seconds on the strip.

Did you ask them about this? They have a good name so I would ask them to double check the trans settings.

They do good work and great tuning!

It might just be due to a lack of better stall.

Have you talked to Vengeance. Those guys do good work and tuning. They may be able to fix that remotely. As for converter, we like to use the Yank 3400. It is an excellent converter. Many daily drivers with this setup.

Sounds nice but those numbers seem low to me, but its how it performs that counts! I'm also keeping the VVT so I've been digging around on other forums and Rhino79 knows his stuff!

Send a message via Yahoo to dynosteve
a convertor will certainly help but to be totally honest it would possibly be in the tune

I'm running the stock converter with my cam. I had the same problem you describe. Occasional bucking on the 2-1 downshift. My tuner raised the shift speed up a few MPH and that solved the problem (from 8 mph to 12 mph). You might want to try that.

A converter is definitely a step in the right direction. I'm sure Vengeance did a good job tuning it, they may just have been limited by the stock stall when it comes to getting all of the buck out.

Depending on personal taste, something from a 2800 (very DD friendly, still fairly tight) to a 3600 (on the loose side for DD IMO but better performance) will definitely help. We use/install both Yank and Circle D here.

I run a Yank SS 3200 converter on my DD it will work great for your combo! I will be installing a custom VVT cam in mine soon.

That's interesting raising the mph of the 2-1 shift, I'll have to remember that.
