I have my tail lights blacked out on my camaro, and have had my trucks lights blacked out for the past 5 years with no problems. It is a risk you have to take, and it is just as legal as most people's muffler deletes, CAIs, headers, and other mods that aren't street legal.

Here in Florida, or at least in my area, State Troopers are notorious for giving out citations for Tint. They don't pull you over for it, they just slap it on to your speeding fine or whatever. STs here are really bad here.

I went with "legal" tint on my windows and have been fine with it. I had a '94 Vette with limo tint and got pulled over for it...luckily it was just a warning and from then on any time I drove into the city limits I rolled down my side windows! PITA when it is raining!

I do however have tinted tail lights, back up lights and turn signals on my 2012 which I know are not legal and all I can hope for is not to get pulled over by an officer on a bad day! Luckily I don't drive my car daily.

Oh...and I have no mufflers...

My dad has had tinted lenses on his Vette for 5 years and hasn't had any trouble so hoping the same for me.

This thread is great. People apply dark tint to their windows and lights, get pulled over and bitch about it. Don't test the law and you won't have a problem.

"The law states that I shouldn't run into a bank waving a gun and demanding money...eh, I'll try it anyways.".

In California lighting is strictly regulated.

26101.
(a) A person shall not sell or offer for sale for use upon or as part of the equipment of a vehicle any device that is intended to modify the original design or performance of any lighting equipment, safety glazing material, or other device, unless the modifying device meets the provisions of Section 26104.

(b) A person shall not use upon a vehicle, and a person shall not drive a vehicle upon a highway that has installed a device that is intended to modify the original design or performance of a lighting, safety glazing material, or other device, unless the modifying device complies with Section 26104.

(c) This section does not apply to a taillamp or stop lamp in use on or prior to December 1, 1935, or to lamps installed on authorized emergency vehicles.

26104.
(a) Every manufacturer who sells, offers for sale, or manufactures for use upon a vehicle devices subject to requirements established by the department shall, before the device is offered for sale, have laboratory test data showing compliance with such requirements. Tests may be conducted by the manufacturer.

(b) The department may at any time request from the manufacturer a copy of the test data showing proof of compliance of any device with the requirements established by the department and additional evidence that due care was exercised in maintaining compliance during production. If the manufacturer fails to provide such proof of compliance within 30 days of notice from the department, the department may prohibit the sale of the device in this state until acceptable proof of compliance is received by the department.

Keep your tint and pay the ticket and wait for the next one. Quit your bitching.

A fix it ticket in San Diego for window tint has a bail amount of $376 if you don't want to get it signed off. I just pay it and go about my business. The time it would take me to have the tint taken off, go find a cop to sign it off, get it put back on is worth more to me than just paying the ticket.

My bad, I mean shifting the auto lights to headlights so my tail lights will be on too.

My friend will try to help me to find a cool cop to sign it off for me. We'll see

Thanks SGG, this is why any aftermarket lighting modification always says, "intended for off road use only".

I would bring my car in Raf and have it altered to legal requirements. I've been told by cop friends of mine that the days of getting away with illegal tint, and even no front plates, are over. The Police were on me almost constantly until I changed mine. Plus if you're like me, damn sexy and too cool for school, LEO's will feel compelled to knock you down a notch or 2.

Even if you keep a fresh box of Krispy Kreme's and doughnut holes on hand to bribe those guys they'll just eat your food then write you a ticket. The Female Officers are also no longer susceptible to our charms anymore, they're quick with the tasers too.

Trust me you're better off just keeping your ride legal dude.

Justraf you don't have your whole windshield tinted do you? Because that is definitely illegal, never seen anyone here in SD with the whole windshield tinted. I bet if you take off that tint, more light will go through and it'll make your side windows not as dark. You may be able to get away with that. I know I did when I had limo tint all around (except windshield) on my old car.
