Advance Auto Parts Idiot

So I picked up some synthetic oil at Walmart (best price) today and stopped by Advance Auto Parts to get a filter. I told the guy what I had and after fumbling with the computer he said, "we don't have any for your car". I said "your kidding". Must have been his first day on the job. Another clerk walks up and goes through the search process again and his computer pulled up a long list filters and the following conversation occurs.

Clerk: "What kind do you want?"
Me: "I'd like a Wix, please"
Clerk: "We don't carry Wix"
Me: "What brands do you have?"
(He turns the screen toward me and starts naming them off)
I notice they are listed from most to least expensive.
Me: "I guess maybe a Bosch"
Clerk: (pointing to the K&H at the top of the list: "You know, you have a high performance car so you might as well get the most horsepower out of it. These K&H filters will give you a few more horsepower".
(The K&H filter was $16.99, the Bosch was about $8)
Me: "What?"
Clerk: "It's true. You can actually gain horsepower with a better filter"
Me: "Come on man. Don't bullshit me"
(The manager overhears me and comes over and asks if there is a problem)
Clerk (to manager): "I was just telling this gentleman that a better oil filter would give him extra horsepower"
Manager: "An Oil Filter?"
Me: "Air filter, maybe, but not an oil filter"
Manager: "That's right. No oil filter will give you extra horsepower. What brand did you want, sir?"
Me: "Well I wanted a Wix but I guess you don't carry them"
Manager: "No we don't. You would have to go to O'Reilley's for a Wix"
Me: "Then I guess I'll just do that. Thanks."
(Went down the street and got my Wix.)

Where do they get some of these "expert" parts clerks. Urrrrrrgh! No more Advance for me!

Yeah... that's what the manager told me:

Manager: "You would have to go to O'Reilley's for a Wix"

So I did. O'reilly's is usually my first stop but I was closer to Advance. Next time, I won't bother stopping at Advance.

You see, my story is so unbelievable , that if I were able to put it in words , it would take till very late
And at night , we need lights to see
The problem is , that at about half way down the story , the speed is so great , that the lights stop working , just about when traveling speed is just a smidge faster than the speed of light .
Now you see the reason I can't tell my story

they're basically the same price, maybe a dollar more for the wix. wix is one of the only companies that makes their own filters still instead of farming them out to china. they also have more pleates per square inch than any other filter, thus offering more filteration surface. having cut wix filters apart for inspection, i'll say they're pretty dang stout inside. they also have an anti-drain-back valve in them which most other filter companies do not.

there are only three filters i'll consider using any more:
-Wix
-K&N
-Mobil1

the wix is by far the cheapest. wix also makes napa's filters, so if you buy a napa filter, it's basically the same thing.

having been on the "other" side of the counter for a few years while i got through college, i have PLENTY of dumbass customer stories...

Went to a local one near my house about a year ago for a set of plugs for my Harley. The counter guy asks me what I want, and I told him plugs for a 2006 Harley Heritage. He says does Ford make that? I said no, Harley makes it. He looks again, and quotes me a price for 8 plugs. I told him no, 2 plugs for a Harley Davidson, He spins the screen around and brought up the Ford Harley edition truck. Again I tell him Harley Davidson motorcycle. Oh he says, looks again and informs me that they don't make the plugs for bikes. Went to Pep-Boys down the street.

Why not use an OEM AC Delco filter that you can buy at Wal-Mart with your oil? They're the only filter I'll use, personally. I use OEM Mopar filters for my Jeep.

Keep in mind that GM warrants our powertrain for 100,000 miles. Trust me, they use excellent filters.
