Insurance Agent: "Chevrolet is so much better than Ford"

So my girlfriend and I are looking into getting her a 2010 SS/RS. She currrently owns a 2012 ford fiesta. I called to get a quote on the SS...so we ran the numbers and the 6 month premium went down $100 bucks. She was surprised at that and so was I. She figured something was wrong so she transferred me to her manager. Ran them again and again got 100 less. So she said...."well now that I think about it must be because our rated are typically lower for Chevy. Chevy is just built so much stronger and are so much more reliable. So that's probably why".

With that...they just gained me for a customer for years to come lol. Thought id share. This is Esurance.

Was she blond? what the heck does reliability or strength have to do with insurance? And what does stronger mean? if it hits something it does more damage? That statement makes no sense.

IF insurance rates are lower compared to Ford, and she wasn't just feeding you a line, odds are that it means the parts for Chevy on average cost less, the resale of Chevy is lower than Ford or both......reliability? really? I would be leery of getting insurance from her....

My bet is she tells the Ford people the same thing, just in the opposite order....

Possibly, but if the car is safer and has a better track record of reduced injuries in accidents then the insurance rates could be lower due to the overall lower cost to the insurance company on claims for said vehicle.

I bet the reason for the lower price is cause the car is not New and the fiesta was newer so more to insure. Same thing happened when I traded my 11 Ls Camaro for the 10 SS Camaro my insurance lowered and asked why the agent said cause it was a older model car.

Insurance rates are based on various factors including cost to repair certain parts (labor), the parts itself, performance or engine type, drivetrain type and ability to protect in impact crashes to name a few. It is possible that the Camaro, being a heavier car, can protect occupants better than a fiesta which can lower rates from a liability standpoint. Age of the drivers will definitely have an impact.
Be sure the coverage is identical.

but we did keep everything the same. Just a little bizarre I guess considering my age and that everything would be more expensive fixing a camaro instead of a fiesta..

That's no crock. You should call an underwriter for a major carrier and question them on how the rates are determined for you. Also your credit in taken into consideration, but you probably think that's a crock too.
BTW: I am a licensed P&C agent. Call your agent to ask the questions. Then you can comment.

It is possible to be lower priced with the Camaro over the Fiesta. Many factors are involved and the stats aligned for on those factors.

Oh I know it's possible, just didn't think it would happen lol. Something else that was weird, we pretty much pay the same for insurance.. Adam (no offense babe!) has had an accident, and tickets. I've never had an accident and the only ticket I had is already off my driving record. So for him being a guy, with a sports car, not having a clean driving record, and being young.. Just something doesn't seem right lol. I mean I'm sure we'll call again when I'm certain about the camaro I want. I guess we'll see.

Hmm could've sworn you had a ticket on your record still.. 22 isn't that old and your a young guy, usually insurance is more considering you're way more likely to street race the mustang revving next to you then I am still, I have a clean driving record, you do not

Some carriers will offer "pleasure driving" rates if you drive less than 7500 miles per year. Those rates can save you a significant amount. The person this fits is one with another daily driver or just drives a little mileage per year. Also you can look at bundling your homeowners/ renters insurance with your auto to save.
