Camaro SS vs. Plymouth Duster

I work with a guy who has an old 70's Duster that he has restored and added a bigger block in it. He tells me it has 400hp at the crank. When I first got my SS he said he would want to do a hamburger run and I wasn't sure but know I think I could take him. I got guys at work thinking he'll win and some thinking I will. He assumes he's putting out around 275hp at the rear wheels and I've seen the stock dyno's with the SS putting out 300rwhp or more, give or take. I've only upgraded to a K&N CAI and a Solo J-pipe axle-back exhaust. So what do you all think, do I have this in the bag? We can go to a local drag strip and run 'em.

Depends on what he did to remove weight out of the duster. You can make them really lite if you put a lot of work in. Although that's not much HP for a "bigger block"(I think you mean big block). The only way to really know is to race.

As mentioned, it all depends on his setup. He could be real slow or fast depending on the overall setup of his car.

1. What's his real HP rating?
2. What kind of weight has been removed?
3. What's his wheel and tire setup (that's a big give away).
4. Gear ratio/stall speed if auto - could be running very steep gearing if he's into drag racing.
5.?

But if he's really only making 275 rwhp, he's probably not all that fast unless he's really geared up with lots of weight reduction.

i thought the SS dynoed at like 370 at the wheels? 100-126 drivetrain loss seems super high :(

He's lighter but if he's really 275 at the wheels you should walk him. Be careful, if I were him I'd be sandbagging you too...

Anywhere from 350-380 rwhp depending on the dyno and type of correction factor used.
426x.15=63.9
426-63.9=362.1

So around 360 rwhp would be right in line for a 426hp LS3 M6 (manually equipped car).

But he has a L99 A6.
400 x .18 (auto)=72
400-72=328 rwhp.
So around 330 rwhp would be right for a 400hp (automatic).

Stock L99s dyno anywhere from 300-330 rwhp depending on the dyno and tune of the car (around 320 rwhp is most common). Lots of L99s are running around on the low octane tune and only dyno down around 300 rwhp. But with a tune, these cars jump to around 330 rwhp.

No, I did mean bigger block. He had a smaller engine before and added the bigger sized engine. Yes it is a big block but I did mean bigger than before.
Yes I'm sure his car is a lot lighter. His is also an automatic like mine. He does have the larger wheels in the back and little ones in the front and I know he likes to put racing fuel in it during the cruise. He literally want's to run'em for a hamburger so I feel if I did lose I'd be out the cost to run a drag and the gas it cost to get there more than anything. I think I'd take him though hes already telling me what he likes on his burger. Haha.

Sorry to everyone who is bothered by me calling this Duster a Dodge. I stand corrected by you, it is a Plymouth. Now I'm not sure if it isn't a Dodge Dart that I'm up against. However, its still a Chrysler product.
