Haltech EMS Piggyback Installations For High Boost - C5 Vette, 2012 Camaro

Having met Eric from Haltech because of a sale we were working on together while I was up at ECS, he presented Doug and I at the time with some great information on installing their Haltech Sport 2000 ECU into a factory C5, maintaining all dash gauges. I must say, we were both quite intrigued. Doug and I set out on a task to install the ECU into a few cars that ECS had already built (2 - 8second rides) and with some good help from our buddy Eric @ Haltech both cars have been performing flawlessly, and since then ECS has installed a few more Haltech's with cars running in the 8-9 second range that are driven to the track and some trailer queens!

Follow along with FSP as we install a couple of Haltech Sport 2000 EMS systems into a 2001 Corvette and a 2012 Camaro. We are handling the Corvette here locally, and the Camaro is being handled by Adadda up in Panama City with some assistance from us. Both cars are already making close to or in excess of 1000HP, YSi supercharged applications.

Both cars will run these features:

- Haltech Sport 2000 EMS w/ Dual Wideband Control
- Add Haltech Boost Control Solenoid for Wastegate control; using for Boost By Gear, delayed ramp-in boost, and engine protection features.
- Tie in fuel pressure, wideband AFR warnings with engine protection features coupled with the wastegate/boost solenoid (i.e. fuel pressure drops below XXpsi, it will open the wastegate and dump boost, and activate a warning light).
- Setup with factory PCM's in both cars, so factory dashboard, gauges, OBD II plug in will still work for driver comfort and inspection.

Let's run down the features of the Haltech.

Although we have run numerous fast quarter mile times on the stock ECU, there are many draw backs to using the factory computer for this purpose. Simply put, the factory PCM focuses on Emissions and drive-ability, wide open throttle is some what a secondary function that is not as controlled as your cruising air fuel ratio is. We have found that with a high HP car that means monitoring these items regularly and making changes throughout the season to keep the car spot on.

ECU's like the Haltech Sport 2000 series, that have been built with running a high HP car as its primary focus, keep its mind set on maintaining WOT conditions. This is crucial to engine longevity, and safeties can be added to change maps in the program based off of, fuel pressure-air fuel ratio-EGT temps-oil pressure, whatever you choose.

Most Corvette or Camaro owners (understandably so) have no interest in gutting the car and rewiring it to a race car status, without body modules etc leaving many factory components inoperable including the dash. We have had the pleasure of working with Haltech to integrate the Haltech Sport 2000 series ECU into your Corvette or Camaro to run all the engine controls, while still retaining all your factory components including plug-in OBD II port for safety/emissions inspections.

This will require wiring to be completed in the PCM area, but as far as the driver is concerned, no one would know anything was changed. The unit is tucked up in the Corvettes or Camaros behind the glovebox, with the accessible USB cable in the glovebox to hookup to your laptop when ready.

Short list of what it will offer is;

- Dual wide band 02 inputs with Closed Loop WOT corrections

- Dual Fuel/Ignition/Boost Tables (For Race Gas & Pump Gas maps at the flip of a switch)

-Individual cylinder tuning

-EGT inputs with an over temp shut down you set if wanted.

-Sequential or Staged injector control for up to 16 injectors

-Built in Drivers for High impedance (Saturated) Injectors or Low Impedance (Peak& Hold) Injectors (no Injector driver box required)

-Wastegate boost control by RPM/Load/Vehicle Speed with Gear offsets (Boost by gear)

-Two step/antilag/launch control off Trans brake or Clutch pedal

-NOS controls (RPM & TPS activation window, Timing Retard, Fuel Enrich)

-VE Speed Density Tuning

-Engine Protection Functions based on various parameters

-High Resolution Internal Datalogging and Easy to use PC Based Datalogging

-Logger “Playback” function retraces run through ECU Manager software to show EXACTLY where make changes

-E85 Flex Fuel Sensor Compatibility (Turn your car into a True Flex Fuel Car and make BIG power on E85!)

Some further progress... Clipped the harness out for what we did not need, got the base map setup, and ran the harness from inside to outside of the car.

Mobius' 2001 Z06 is back in Georgia now. We saw 890rwhp before the tires gave out at 6100rpms. Real numbers will be track times once the weather cools down a bit. Client drove it back home 4+ hours, no hiccups and actually said the trailer hitching effect (Big cam) is a lot better now with the Haltech EMS. Plus with full engine protection controls, proper fueling and spark for this high HP beast that's what we need.

We have two more Haltech's to do now, one in a 2012 Camaro and one in our shop car 2011 Camaro.. We'll keep you guys in loop.
