50 State Legal Exhaust

I am looking for some input on a 50 state legal exhaust. I was looking @ getting ARH shorties and maybe changing the cats. Who has hi flow cats that are 50 state legal? Would this be a bolt on deal or will I have to bring this to a muffler shop? BTW I have already a Flowmaster axle back just for better sound. Thanks for any help. Craig

Just go high flow cats, it will remain legal as long as you don't move the location of the cats. BUT stay away from shorty headers they are pointless. Are you looking for more hp? Then long tubes and a tune is the ONLY way to go. EPA be damned around here lol.

There is no high flow cats that are 50 state legal. At least not legal in California that is.

New Jersey is almost as bad as CA. I see that ARH has a 50 state legal shorty. I know not as good as a LT, but it's better that stock. I need to keep this legal

I would agree that all of the shorties probably make no extra power EXCEPT the ARH ones. Those are actually a equal length shorty and will make about 10RWHP. Now if 10RWHP is worth 1000 dollars to you then go for it. High flow cats would add another 10RWHP but cost you another 300-600 dollars. If you are pretty mechanicly inclined I would just get LT headers, high flow cats, and a tune. Those will make 40RWHP and cost way less than the ARH shorties and high flow cats. Just switch them out before inspection and load the stock tune. Problem solved.

I ordered "for my husbands Birthday next month" the Noweeds Exhaust Diverter System! If its sound you want, it's LOUD THUNDEROUS SOUND you'll get. Best part is with the touch of a button you're instantly back to stock. Also NO TUNE required, will not throw any codes and guys have been putting these on Gen5 Camaros since they came out.

Bolt on system, easily done yourself in three hours tops, and you could go back to stock if you for some reason ever wanted to. Steve from Noweeds told me the Dyno numbers are HP increase anywhere from 15-35. I recently put the Roto Fab CAI that combined with the Noweeds and my ZL1 is getting a serious boost, and NO TUNE.

I PM'd several guys who do this install years ago to get some feedback on how the system has held up, and all who responded gave it a 100% Recommendation. It's not cheap, you're spending a Grand of your hard earned cash, but its a quality made product and highly recommended.

Hope this helps, it's worth checking out for sure. Their homepage, the video of the girl in the Black SS, sold me right on the spot. But I did lots of research before placing my order yesterday, talked to many new/old owners and like I said I got back a 100% NO REGRETS! http://www.noweeds.net/

Also found this picture of one of the guys who didn't want the switch under the seat. May just do this myself. Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1371389910.847695.jpg

Just get LTs and remove them for inspection. I believe it's 7 years by you, so you should be fine for awhile.

NJ is easy just go to private inspection site. I have never had issues, as long as you aren't throwing or blocking cels.

Get your car registered in another state (do you own property elsewhere?) and never get an inspection sticker (so long as you never drive it in that state) and no one will pull you over

Ok don't actually

What's with all the California haters? Just because we have great weather and far more beautiful women doesn't mean you have to live your life in envy.

I didn't insult your weather or your women, I just said it's a communist state. Maryland is too so it's not like it matters to me.

Hot rod your car at the expense of what? Air quality for your kids, grand kids, your fellow citizens? Listen I understand the need for HP. I wouldn't be on here if I didn't. But running no cats on your car is not worth it. It's obnoxious and has no place on the streets. There is no major benefits over hi flow cats. If you don't like the EPA why not go visit some countries that don't have it such as china where the smog is thick enough to cut with a knife and the air is toxic. Then give me your opinion of them again. Why should Your hot rod hobby should trump the basic rights of everyone else? Cars are making 600+ HP all day long with stock cats on and still passing 50 state emission standards.

California emission requirements are the result of the need to comply with federal EPA laws. Environmental laws are a hassle no doubt, but when I was going up, the dirty brown air hurt to breathe on hot days. The air isn't great in the summer, but its far better than in the 70's. Still the pollution caused by international container ships and trucks on the 710 freeway carrying cheap appliances from Long Beach to the Midwest is a major problem for California. Children cancer rates are 10,000 times higher for people living within one mile of the 710. If staying emissions legal is the burden on me, so be it. Fortunately, most Californians agree and put a legislator in place to protect us from pollution. Yea, sometimes the regulations go too far, but is a democratic process, not communism. 50 states and 50 different ways of governing. I think anyone living in north Korea or China would find comparing California government to communism laughable.

Sorry for the long winded opinion, but the anti California mentality that has swept across our nation is tiresome and unpatriotic.

The last two guys have very valid points. Even more reason to go with the Noweeds. Push of a button and you're right back to stock and nobody's the wiser! Earth Shattering Thunder, push that button, nice and right back to that absolutely legal sound/emissions! Best of both worlds.

Our cars make next to NO emissions even with no exhaust when compared with the emissions of commercial vehicles. Seriously. Look at the black shit coming out of the smokestacks on semis, moving trucks, etc. None of that shit is even regulated. They're just going after regular consumers because it's easier to rob them. Corporations don't want to be hit in the pocketbook if they can help it, and those are the guys paying the legislators' wages, so of course they get away with burning the atmosphere. A little sports car doesn't even compare with the pollution put out by the vehicles used in big industry.
