GM Releases OFFICIAL C7 Stingray Performance Numbers

Quote:
DETROIT – Chevrolet released official performance estimates today for the 2014 Corvette Stingray, the most capable standard Corvette ever. Equipped with the available Z51 Performance Package, the new Stingray is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, braking from 60 to 0 in 107 feet, and sustaining 1.03 g in cornering.

Cumulatively, the acceleration, cornering and braking capability of the Corvette Stingray enabled it to lap the Virginia International Raceway’s (VIR) 4.2-mile “Grand Course” in 2:51.78.

“For the new Stingray, we set out to elevate every aspect of the Corvette’s performance,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. “Considered alone, the acceleration, braking and cornering performance of the Corvette Stingray is truly impressive. More significant is how well they work together, resulting in a lap time at VIR that places the new Stingray in the upper echelon of all sports cars.”

That is freaking incredible! The base car w/Z51 pkg. just smoked the ZL1 by 5 seconds at VIR! 2:51 is ZR1 territory! And 12 flat in the 1/4 mile....whoa.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe goes on sale in the third quarter of 2013 for a suggested starting retail price of $51,995, excluding tax, title, and license fees. The $2,800 Z51 Performance Package includes an electronic limited-slip differential; dry-sump oiling system; integral brake, differential and transmission cooling; as well as a unique aero package that further improves high-speed stability. Magnetic Ride Control with Performance Traction Management is a $1,795 option. A Corvette Stingray equipped like the test car used at VIR would cost $56,590.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say expect the Z06 version to beat the current ZR1 numbers when it comes out..

the ZR1??? I'm thinking Chevy might be targeting the GT2

These times are by Chevy engineers. Chevy engineers did a 2:52.4 in the ZL1

And 2:45.6 in the zr1

GMs numbers are usually a bit on the generous side, that said this is going to be an amazing performer and with a new aggressive look, finally a great interior, and improved performance, this is going to be THE sportscar bargain, very nice.

Oh, this is so going to replace our Grand Sport when it is available...wow. Hoping dad goes with the Lime Rock Green...I have always loved Corvettes in green, probably because of the relative rarity of them.

Yep, most of the time. Honestly, i am sure the 0-60 and 1/4 mile time are pretty accurate, but seriously, GM always puts out track times up to 10 seconds quicker than what anyone else gets. It is going to be quick, certainly, It is not going to beat a C6 Z06/Z07 or ZR1 in track performance though. All i am saying, my post was mainly positive towards it though, so you are the one who must try to make everything into a storm cloud because everyone doesn't want to drink the Kool-Aid? And all this because i don't think the SS Sedan is all that and a bag of patato chips? Well, for once I am in the massive majority there, check out even the forum DEDICATED to the SS (www.ssforums.com) and see how many people that were ready to put in orders have decided to go elsewhere on that car.

Didn't mean to pull this off topic, so....

Pic of a blue C7, think the body color at the edges of the roof should be standard.
