Yeah, that's a low ball number. Every dealer will start about the same.

You mentioned downsizing some cars, but talk about trading into a 2500HD.

If you try to sell it privately now is a good time while they are somewhat hard to find and before the 14s hit the streets. Advertise it nationwide. People will travel to buy a car they want. I have done it. Autotrader & cars.com are two I use.

This..

Dealers are super frustrating to deal with, but I've accepted that they are all a******* that will try to screw you every way to sunday.. I've found luck with telling them straight up that i'm not their regular uninformed customer and if they are going to waste my time trying to sucker me i'll bring my business to another dealership that gets it.. I usually bring this up when they spit out bs.. I used to find it offensive at first, but I guess they needed to take their shot seeing if I knew nothing..

I'd bring truecar.com value, trade information (kbb, Edmunds and blackbook).. give your idea of a fair price and stick with it.. I told them with my trade i'm basically giving them extra money on top of what they make on the vehicle so i'm not budging..

Thanks for the advice. By downsizing I was getting rid of 3 other cars and a boat. I wanted to trade because here we only pay tax on the difference in price which can add up to a couple thousand.

I didn't tell him anything about my situation, just that I was looking to trade my car for a truck.

Just find another dealer with a car/truck on the lot you are interested, have your lowest number in mind and walk if the deal is not good. You will eventually find a deal that will work for both you and the dealer...

That makes sense. You know you can trade multiple cars too. It has the same tax benefit. Hendrick in Duluth GA says they will trade and sell anything (old muscle cars, boats, tractors). There are probably a dozen ways to get it done although you still have to negotiate for the right deal.

In the meantime, I hope things at home get on the right track soon.

Keep us posted. Your Camaro5 brethren will be here for you.

.:you can skip this tl;dr part:.
Hey! that's where I got my car from!

Huge dealership, however they might piss you off too cuz they tried really hard to get extra money from me...

just one of the examples from them...this 21 year old salesman tried to tell me that my truecar.com certificate was invalid because it excludes special packages....... I told him to cut it out.. the 1LE is not a special package it was actually an option on the site and only excludes the ZL1

You can eventually get them to give in to your terms... they are number 1 in numbers for the southeast and are competing for the national title.. so even though they will try, i'm sure they will make it happen if they can.
.:end:.

there are dealerships who will work with you and give you less of a hard time.. this guy even used a shotgun for downpayment!
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...9320ES20130403

hope things get better for you as well.. best of luck!

It is always disappointing to hear stories like the one the OP shared. I almost backed out of a deal on a 2004 Mustang GT when the Finance person started to berate me and talk to me like I was an idiot when I declined the "Extended Warranty". I asked her what happens when I walk away from a full cash transaction and let her lose the deal because of the attitude. I reminded her it was my money and I would spend it how I want to. She backed tracked, and sternly asked me to sign my paperwork. I would recommend going to a different dealer, sell privately, and get a fair deal for yourself. Not every transaction needs to be a home run, but no one should allow themselves to robbed blindly.

Not to be too nosy, but is the divorce a done deal?

Are the cars what's causing your wife to threaten divorce? As if she's saying, "it's either me or the cars"?

I had a g/f like that once. Once.
She's gone and the cars are still in the garage.

$28,xxx trade in is completely insane. Granted my '13 2SS/RS 1LE with Nav, Sunroof, NPP and prem floor mats trade in was $44,500 with 488 miles. I'd say you should be able to easily get $38,xxx for yours.

Usually when the topic comes up, it's just a matter of time.

There is an old saying: " When you drive a new car off the lot, expect a $10,000 loss, if you decide to trade it in within a year". If it sold for 40k new, then 28k (FROM A DEALER) is not out of the picture. A little low, but I could see it. My guess, is the dealer would ask 35k and settle for 32k or 33k making about 4-5k. Keep in mind this is a "niche" car, and the dealer will need to find someone who wants it, so it might set a while (depending on the area market). Will it be a collector car? Perhaps, if you leave it bone stock, keep the miles under 5k, in about 20-30 years it might be (maybe). Then you "might" get more than what you paid for it. Lastly, several other posters have already said this: Sell it yourself, asking 35k and go from there.

I went with a buddy of mine to look at a 2SS 1LE npp and nav and he was going to pay 36,500 for it before TTL. 28 is too low, but Chevy is screwing the current owners by offering big rebates on the current stock of 13s, which drives the prices down in the used car market. I think 32 would have been a fair price for it.
