Z51 Vette may be clue toward Z/28 price

http://ls1tech.com/articles/2014-cor...t-3-8-seconds/

So the performance specs for the Z51 Stingray are out and the price is just a little over $56K. I think it would be tough to justify a Z/28 over $65K based on this but who knows...

A highly optioned ZL-1 Camaro sells for around 60K....Z/28 will be "most expensive Camaro yet"....don't think 'Vettes have much to do with it...

I don't think the Stingray will even be close in the handling/track readiness department. I see your point but the only category that the Stingray has a chance of winning is acceleration. It is an impressive performance bargain but expect the Z/28 to be on another level.

Does that include a COPO? If so wouldn't the Z's price be around 100k?

Especially since the 1LE already looks to match the Z51 in the handling department. With that being said I expected the new C7 to exceed some of the C6 performance numbers by a bigger margin.

I just love these posts of hope.

Price of the Z/28 has as much to do with Corvette pricing as it has to do with Sonic pricing.

Interesting ... so what you are saying is that we have to add the price of a Sonic to the price of the Corvette to get the price of a Z/28?

z/28 is most likely be about the price of a ZL1 probably just a little more..
it will be a good deal really for what you getting.. but not meant to compete with ZL1 or the corvette.. it is a meant as a track car that well you can drive it to the track. Suspension will be super stiff and not a comfortable ride on the road..

LOL

Sadly, that might be closer.......................$57,500 for a Z51 Corvette plus $15,000 for the Sonic? $72,500

I can see the managers and beancounters at GM now. "Well the new Z28 costs 70,000 to make, but we can't price this higher than a corvette. So lets sell it at a loss."

No one is saying they would do that. My point was, if you are going to sell the Z/28 based on its track prowess, you better not make it too much higher than a Vette that is equally or closely matched from a performance perspective.

The only way they can justify something substantially priced above the Z51 Vette would be if the Z/28 is substantially faster. The 2014 Z51 vette is only 6 seconds slower than the 2012 ZR1 vette at VIR. I find it hard to believe that the Z/28 is going to be faster than the ZR1. If it is, then they can charge whatever they want for the car and they will probably sell as many as they can make. If it isn't faster than the ZR1, then that means it is less than 6 seconds faster than the new Z51. I just struggle to believe that people would pay more than $10K over the price of a Z51 for a Z/28 that is just a little faster. BUT AGAIN...I am just thinking from a marketing perspective what the justification would be if I am GM.

I understand, but not everybody likes Corvettes. We can compare the Z/28 to a corvette all day long. But in the end, we are still comparing two totally different cars. To somebody who loves both, I can understand some confusion here, but I don't forsee the pricing of corvettes making much of a difference when it comes to a final price on the Z/28. Just my thoughts, which mean nothing in the real world

There is no connection between what a Z/28 can do on a track vs a Corvette or a Corvette Z51 and their respective costs. Keep in mind that the lighter weight Z/28 will only have a 45 hp head start to make up for being 600 pounds heavier. And the Z51 won't have ceramic brakes or a hand built LS7. The Z51 will likely only add track needed items like better brakes and the cooling packages for the rear dif, etc.. A base Corvette will likely give any Camaro a run for it's money. It is closer to Z06 now than the old Corvette.

I hope you are right, but I am pretty sure GM will have no concerns charging more for a Z/28 than a Z51.

Is it wrong that a Z51 will likely blow a ZL1 into the weeds for less money? You are making that argument.

Again everyone here supports your hope. Just pretty sure when GM says the Z/28 will be the most expensive Camaro that means more than a ZL1.

Well, I think a max equipped ZL1 goes for about $62K so would it be crazy to think the Z/28 could be around $69K? I started this thread saying it gets tough above $65K but I could see justification up to $69K or so which is still 10% more than the most expensive Camaro ZL1 so it meets the only criteria we have so far. I am not trying to be disagreeable, but working in sales myself...I am just trying to hypothesis what we are looking at because I really want one.
