do you mean shifting quickly as like at a low RPM, or as in like the amount of time it took to go from one gear to the next was quick.

and i am at work where youtube is blocked. So i will look later.

Its at higher rpm. around 5000-6000 it shifts then shifts again a second or 2 later. and runs until the end.

Very noticeable in the first video. Check it out later. Maybe Im just over analyzing it.

With that description sounds like your shift points need to be reconfigured.

Do you log at all while at the track? and yeah, i will check them out when i get a chance.

I sent all of the videos to my tuner. He is out of the country right now though. It appears not to be running out to 6000 in 3rd. Short shifting? On the vacant back roads I can run 3rd out to about 117 but the track is different I guess.

I wonder if tire slip is causing it to upshift too early?

Just watched the videos and its very possible the tire spin could be throwing it off.

But yeah your 2-3 shift comes very quickly. And your 3-4 shift is actually hanging up a little bit too.

I wouldn't try and trouble shoot anything until you get some better rubber on those tires. With your power levels you are gonna struggle greatly to get traction.

I'm going to steal your converter out of your car and go 11.49 next fall with some awesome DA.

True that. I was referring to him staying with the stock tires. Cutting his 60' down to a 1.7 on stock tires at that power level is a stretch.

Ya, you short shifted from second to third. That is killing MPH I'm sure of it. You are spinning at all times during your pass. Crandall did that too me too. :-/ You need some 18" Grand Sport wheels and some MTs.

I just watched some of the vids, and it sounds like it shifted 2-3 quickly on some of the early passes.

From what I can tell it's either your shift points are off Or ....
Before I say the other possibility, (do you have a multi disc converter?)

Haha! I'm gonna steal your gears and put them in my car and break all the records! Then I'm gonna put your car on a diet, then I'm gonna drive it and THEN it will run 11.39!!

I see now and yes you are right. Ut would be hard for him to see 11's in stock tires, and a 1.7 on stock tires at his power level is gonna be almost impossible!

I guess I need slicks, gears, and a little slim fast in the gas tank to keep up with y'all.

Thought so, it also could be your converter locking very early. You need to data log it to see exactly what it's doing.

Either way if its shift points or converter lock up mph, it needs to be adjusted!
I hope your tuner has the ability to tune your converter. Not all tuners can! Trust me I know.

On the street when driving in manual in 2nd or 3rd when I shift into those gears the car surges very noticeably. I will shift and a few seconds later it will surge and drop rpm. It does it in s mode but not as hard. I don't know if this is related to what you are talking about. He said it should lock until 4th.

What do I need to log my runs?

How where you shifting it?? In S and let it shift on its own?? In M and paddle shifting it?

I just noticed that towards the end of the night, it wasn't doing that short shift or converter lock up like it was earlier? Did you change your launch technique or anything?

Always in s mode.

As far as surging in manual it happens while running around 40 to 50 and accelerating and then letting off. Same in s mode. Accelerating and letting off. When the rpm drop a few hundred it will surge. Almost feels like when 4 low in my truck and running along and let off. How it feels like grabs. Idk. Feels torquey. I don't know how to describe it.

And in the later runs I wasn't holding as much rpm on it.Off throttle and rolling into it. In the early runs I was holding 1500-1800.

I'm betting its your converter! Mine did the same thing except it was in 2nd gear. I would notice after it shifted to 2nd and rpms were climbing it would suddenly drop down about 400 then start rising again! I had never ran a multi disc so I didn't realize right off that it was just Bc the converter was locking in 2nd.

Too make a long story short, Rhino fixed that problem for me instantly.

I will get him to check when he gets back in town. Now that I have my go pro I'm gonna make a video to show him.

Help me out on this logging stuff. What do I need?

I would get the car to hook first, then look into the tune.

So the spinning and high rpm from that is making the shift earlier than needed and causing premature lock up?

Tuning software and a laptop or handheld. Your tuner can set u up I'm sure.

Agree John, your biggest issues messing with your ET's Jeff is TIRES TIRES TIRES! You are having to baby that throttle to keep from spinning! You need what I have. 18" Vette rims with MT ET streets! Then you can hammer it!

When my car spins a ton on a run, my shifts don't necessarily sound right.
