Cam install and supporting mods

What supporting mods would you recommend for a custom cam.

I know springs and valves timing chain and tune, what about lifters? Injectors? Spark plugs?

I will be doing a super charger or twin turbos. Will this have an effect on the cam down the road? Want to go in once and do it right.

Thanks guys! A month away from this!!!

Forced induction will certainly need a camshaft designed for it, otherwise the combo not be optimum. Headers are a must on a naturally aspirated car, even good to do on a supercharged car. The lifters on the ls3 are good, the afm lifters (8 of them) on the auto cars need replaced with ls3 lifters.

On the spark plugs, its going to depend on the setup, most cammed cars will like a little cooler plug. The only real way to know is to make a good long pull on the dyno and shut down, inspect plug. The wideband and datalog will show you a general idea of what the motor wants, reading the plugs is the best way to tune it though. And it will also tell you if the plug is too hot or too cool.

LS3. My speed shop today said they can put in a blower cam and it will effect driveability a little bit.

they said TT would need a new cam but the supercharger would be fine.

they said they'd only put in a new timing chain and springs and the rest was fine.

800 for cam and springs 1000 labour and 700 for tune

dont really know pricing in canada. in us dollars that would be towards the high range just for a cam. good springs and a cam not so much. quality springs arent cheap.

Will your shop let you bring them the parts? It might be cheaper (and better) for you to source your own parts and have them install them. $700 for a tune is pricey down here, but like SPCBA said... I don't know what prices are like up there. Supply and demand.

Litle88 gave you a solid list of parts to upgrade. He forgot the comp trunion upgrade. Other than those parts you just need a cam and a tune. You should be able to get a cam made or bought off the shelf for ~$400. You want the 3-bolt core too.

Good luck. Hopefully they will be responsive. You can put in top of the line stuff for the price they quoted you. They might want a little extra for putting in the oil pump. FSP charges $50 extra labor. That is a very fair price.

Okay. And the rest should all be within in the scope of work?

I'd love to participate in the install, but I think I'd double the
labour time with all my questions.

Working in the wrong trade.

Yeah. The rest is no more work than their package... Just better parts.
