Help me understand the 1LE hype.

What gives? From what I see around here everyone wants to 'upgrade' to a 1LE around here. Is your street driven SS so bad that your are destroying your tires and brakes at an excessive rate? Does the stock SS just not meet your standards of handling ability on the freeway entrance ramp? Also, you don't want to buy the tires for them very often.

I'm mainly just wondering why you would want to trade your street driven SS, or your SS that you drag race for a 1LE, it's a track oriented car. Does it ride better, can you really tell the difference on the street or do you just feel like you are driving an SS with more expensive tires and a flat black hood?

I can understand if you are an auto crosser or trading up from a V6 you may as well throw that package in I guess.

I'm pretty sure the quarter mile time is the same in the ss and the ss with 1le pack.

I have wondered that as well.I know in my case i race mine, and do track days, which is what this car is designed for.I have never driven just the standard SS,in fact i was thinking today that i was going to contact my salesman and see if i could drive a used SS to see the difference. So if these are being bought to just drive on the street,i wonder what the draw is,dont get me wrong this car *ucking rocks, but i imagine the standard SS does as well.

For $3,500 bucks every SS buyer should check that option box. You get so much for so little. One of these day I'll be checking that box!

If you have a 2010-11 SS the 1LE will be a huge improvement. Not so much with the 2012+ SS. But like aggieguy13 was saying the 1LE has a lot of very nice parts on it. Just the 3.91 gears and transmission make it worth the cost let alone ALL the other stuff you get wih it.
If the 1LE was out back when I ordered my 2SSRS I would have one now.

From what I have seen a stock 1LE will spank a stock SS in a drag-race (better gears better trans. gears and better tires.

not exactly spank, its still a Drivers race. i believe is 12.9 and 13.1. but dont quote me on that.

but its just kinda cool to me. I previously had a 35th aniversary. one of only 100 with all the options i had.

and they say that less than 1% of all 2013's are 1LE's so thats kinda cool. (no official numbers yet i dont think)

FE4 suspension with tweaks, a more aggressive rear axle gear, with ZL1 type wheels and tires makes this car much more a performer than a stock SS. It's all of that, a full mark above the stock SS.

I think you are a prime target for a 1LE test-drive. It's very easy to understand the appeal once you've driven one.

IMO it is the bargain of the century for $3500. The wheels alone are worth a substantial markup. Plus the better shocks and ZL1 parts in the rear and some durability. I'm honestly shocked that the option package costs so little for how much added value is tossed in there. Get a stripper 1LE and put on a centrifugal supercharger and you have yourself near ZL1 level acceleration for $15k cheaper.

I have driven both the normal SS and I have the 1LE and to me it's night and day. Mine is a DD when I'm not on the bike I didn't get it to track it but it's nice to have that option if I wanna do it. I got mine more because I like being a little different and this fits the bill very well.

Sent from the fast lane!

It's a good package but it's not worth trading your car in...

I know of at least one that came in that didn't have the wrap on the hood. I would love to have that one.

Just wait until they come out with a 2LE, then everyone will want and or wish they had that.
The only reason why I didn't go for the 1LE was that I specifically wanted an automatic. But I agree with others that its a good value for the extras.

The OP isn't wondering if the 1LE is better than the SS... clearly it is. And just as clearly if a person were buying their first Camaro the 1LE option is a no brainer, if performance is a priority. He's asking is it THAT much better to justify trading in an SS in order to upgrade.

So now the $3500 option becomes $3500 plus the depreciation on your current car... which is going to be more, possibly many more, thousands of dollars... and the answer becomes far less clear.

I personally would not do it, but that's just me.

Actually I have a 2012 SS with FE4 suspension I drive around pretty aggressively but the street is no racetrack. Obviously the 1LE will outperform on the track but if I went to a track it would probably be a drag strip.

I don't find myself wishing my car would corner or brake better on the street, if I bought one it would just be completely posing.
