What are you guys paying for cam installs.

I'm looking to cam my car and just wondering a general price. I'm hoping to do this as a gift for my birthday in August. I wish I could find someone in the southeast near Alabama that could do a cam install and tune it within a day or two.

I would be looking for shop hourly rates and expected time to do the install of the cam with supporting components springs hardened pushrods trunion upgrade etc.. and then the tune, different shops are more than likley different shop rates based off you're location..

you will also need to budget in the extras new oil and coolant probably a timing chain etc etc etc etc etc... as the list goes one the cost increases..

it all adds up, but you should do things once if you're going in to the internals..

my $0.02

Please see the link I posted, has all FSP's install prices including Cam/Rods/Springs etc... broken down. If you find a shop that is willing to do an all inclusive deal then it is a win/win....Hence our Cam Install special

Feel free to give us a call here at lethal racing. Remember, if the price is too cheap you want to question the brand/quality of parts being used. We use only name brand parts!

I was quoted for 1500 cam install only no dyno or tune. This is in el paso tx so there's really no LS shops around here.

Roughly $2500+- depending in options! Try MTI! They are in Cobb Co in Ga, maybe a 2 or 3 hour drive, not sure! But that's the closest u know of!

My install and tune was $1,500. Turnaround for me was about 3 days IIRC. Good luck and find a good shop with a good tuner. DO NOT compromise or you will regret it. Do it once and do it right, might cost more upfront but will save you tons on the backside.

Nothing . Tracy and RX really took care of me after my motor exploded. Since I got a new LS3 to replace my L99 he only charged me for the price of the custom cam and supporting parts.

From my Note

This...

And honestly you don't want a cam swap and a tune done in a day or two.

And why not? If the shop is good and familure with the swap, what's wrong with them being fast too? If there not good and familure with the swap, why would you want to go there anyway?

You can either have right or right now. The two rarely go hand in hand.

Best case scenario in my mind would be 3 days. A day to install, a day to tune, a day to make sure there aren't any issues...

After you do a couple hundred installs you learn how to lean the process

We aren't always the cheapest place, but we use quality parts, take our time and do it right the first time. We also stand behind all our work, customer service isn't always about the cheapest deal, but more about quality and how you handle issues if they arise.

I agree to a point, but as Black10 points out, you can get faster with repetition. There are ways to quicken the job without lowering quality. The better shops have this figured out.

Thanks guys. Yeah I don't want anything rushed. I could do the install myself..but I work 6 and 7 days a week 15 hours a day right now I hardly have time to do anything besides, work, gym, sleep repeat. I am taking off for a few days for my birthday to relax and hopefully buy myself a cam swap.

I'll be looking at Vengance, fsp, and lethal.

Biggest thing Is I have to find me a cam I'll be happy with and I have been researching that right now. Trying to find something with good midrange and descent top end. Also a cam where I won't loose much on bottom end and still be a good driver.

Last cam I did in my 99ss was the texas speed magic stick 4...nice cam, good power...not good for a weekend toy haha.

I was going to suggest Vengeance also but didnt know you would want to drive the extra hour! They've done all the work on our car! Also if a shop suggest something do it! I regret not listening to them the first time! Lol!
But Vengeance has a nice cam, very street friendly and nice power gains, it's their KaotiK cam!

Getting a custom grind spec'd exactly to what your goals are is not any more expensive, keep that in mind. You don't have to settle for an off the shelf cam(not implying anythings wrong with them), a custom grind tailored to you usually runs the same.

Shoot me or Matt a pm if you'd like.

We would be happy to provide an itemized estimate for a complete cam kit/labor/tuning- turn key.

We will price match any competitors written estimate AND we offer enclosed pick up/delivery of your vehicle.

Feel free to call/email to discuss your specific goals.

If we could just keep the damn Dodges out of your stall, you could get some work done on the Camaro's.
