Paint Issues

As everyone knows the paint on our cars is horrible, I have tons of nicks on my lower quarter panels. Is there anyway to get that covered under warranty because the paint is shit?

Thank you

Colin Gordon

It's not the paint ... It's the shape of the car, the way you drive and the roads you drive on. And no it's not covered under warranty.

All paints these days are shit...the Honda, Toyota and all other boards are all screaming about it...it's because paints have to meet EPA and are water based, and they don't "attach" like paints earlier ....

I got my full front bumper and both rocker panels (areas under each door) covered in ClearBra. Well worth the money. Might not be a bad idea these days to have the whole car done in ClearBra (considering how bad paint is today), or another route would be to have a full car wrap in the same color as the paint...that might hold up a little better.

Remember when cars had lead in the paint, I know it was hazardous to do that, but were paint jobs bad back then?

This^. Oil based paint was much stronger and better.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but....

We all agree that the water based paint isn't as good, but I also think there is a lot of variation from car to car or even part to part since cars aren't painted all at once. I don't think the industry has really perfected the chemistry or application yet.

I only have 5000 miles on my Camaro and the paint isn't wearing so well. There is a big chip on the hood and one on the quarter panel where the facia was reinstalled. No big deal, I will touch those up and move on. However, the front fascia is a disaster. It has chips everywhere and the paint seems to peel as much as chip. It is definitley wearing differently than the rest of the car. I am tryin to get it fixed now. If I don't have any luck with the dealer I will pay to get it repainted myself.
