low oil pressure warning...

I have yet to have a single issue with my 2010 LS3, and today, after getting home from work, I got back in the car to run errands and as soon as I started to back out of the drive way, my low oil pressure warning came on.
I installed a Mike Norris catch can last week, and I can't help but wonder if that could have anything to do with it. I had my oil changed less than 1k miles ago, and I am not leaking any oil. I just checked, and my oil is full. Any ideas what the problem could be? Is it possible that it is related to the catch can? Thanks.

Shouldn't be related to the catch can, when you say you're oil is "full" I'm guessing you mean that it's within the marks on the dip stick? Are you checking your oil level when the engine is hot or when the engine is cold?

I don't want to jump to conclusions but I have heard of the oil pumps going out on the 2010 LS3's

did you upgrade the oil pump when you did the cam install?

The catch can wouldn't impact that, unfortunately it may be the pump, is it stock?

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:

Some customers may complain of low oil pressure, no oil pressure, and/or engine noise, which may be the result of a sticking oil pump pressure relief valve. In some instances, this may occur intermittently if the valve frees up when the engine cools down.
Recommendation/Instructions:

If SI diagnosis isolates low mechanical oil pressure at the oil filter housing and oil pressure sensor, replace the oil pump, flush the oil cooler lines (if equipped), clean the inside of the oil pan, change the oil and filter, and re-evaluate the concern.

Notice: If an engine noise is noticed after replacing the oil pump, follow the SI diagnosis and repair the engine as necessary.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

same thing happen to me after about 8-10 thousand after cam. went to get a pizza . walked back out , started the car and display said no oil /low oil pressure. took to kyspeed and he help me fix it with a melling . i did the ls2 chain thing too . cause ive heard them going down pretty quick aswell . but ya its ur pump. most likely the relief valve going bad in the pump. but a new pump and ur good to go.

please for the love of god do not drive it. melling makes a replacement that is affordable and diy capable job.

i have seen ls3 guys use l99 pumps as well.

Thanks for the info. I shut it off the second the car told me to. Not worth taking the chance and making it a much more expensive fix. I called the dealership and they want to charge me $1700 to replace the pump. After much research, I am finding that my mods can not possibly have had any impact what-so-ever on my pump failing, so this may be a battle I fight with GM under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. We'll see. Worst case, our best performance shop in town is offering to install a Texas Speed ported pump for $600 out the door. Not fun for a part that should not fail, but I'm skeptical about replacing it with the same garbage pump that it has in it.

The worst part of this is that I am military and have orders to transfer next week. My car was supposed to get me from Florida to California. My piece of mind isn't at it's highest at this point. Crossing my fingers that I can get this thing all hammered out in time to roll out on schedule. Again, thanks for the info.

Both. Dealership changed it out less than 1k miles ago. By full, I meant, it is where it should be.

No. I was talking with one of the Customer Service reps on the forums last night and he was trying to work it out with the dealership here, but I haven't heard anything back just yet. Just FYI... you could replace the pump yourself with a Melling 10296 for $150 + new oil. Another $160 and you could do timing chain and LS2 damper too.

GM had been replacing these things for a while now, its not that they dont want to its that a dealership has to report it right and want too.

I spoke with the dealership, and GM this morning. The dealership says that it is GM policy not to warranty any of it if engine components have been changed out with aftermarket parts. Oddly enough, GM customer service said that IS NOT the policy. The dealership says they have to get it in and diagnose it first (understandable) but have already said that they won't cover it even if they find that the mods have nothing to do with it. Good to know they are willing to go in objectively, right? They want $100 an hour to diagnose it, and they are saying $1700 to fix it. This is what they tell me even after GM customer service calls them. At this point, knowing that I am dealing with dishonest people, I'd rather just pay the performance shop the $600, get a better pump, and know that it will be done right.

Way to go GM!

You could also try some other dealerships. I agree you need to stay away from that one. Already smells like trouble. Aside from that... head to the speed shop with a melling pump in hand.

I used Onstar to call for a flatbed truck. They towed it to my local Chevy dealer who repaired it under warranty.

I had no mods to the engine.

Of course they did. They're not going to re-warranty an aftermarket pump...
