Exclamation GREEN Camaros are coming, WHITE Camaro is alive, and Buick 3800 engine rumor

Here's some interesting news & rumors to send you off to your long weekends. Also reported on Homepage.

Green Camaro Color

We have it on good info that two green colors will be made available for the Camaro -- Opel Green and Synergy Green.
The Opel Green Camaro will be a deeper shade of green, while the Synergy Green color will be the lighter shade. Take a look at the green camaro photoshop threads below for some ideas of what these shades may look like on the Camaro.

Opel Green -- http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17856
Synergy Green -- http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17813

White Camaro Color

It's alive!! Word is that a production white Camaro SS (with RS package, silver trim, auto transmission and sunroof) has already been produced and is on its way to Mexico. Mexican members, make sure your cameras are charged! We hope to bring you the first shots of a production white Camaro ASAP. Here's an idea of what it will resemble: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6399

Buick 3800 Motor for the Camaro?

There's a rumor floating about that there's potentially the development of another engine to go into the Camaro, based on the Buick 3800 V6 Motor, and which is not naturally aspirated (which means a supercharged or turbo version). We're not sure what to make of this, so take it with a grain of salt, but stay tuned for any future info.

isnt the 3.6 good enough? i see no reason why gm would mess with the 3.8L. the 3.8 is an awesome engine dont get me wrong but the 3.6 is much more efficient.

But what would a turbo/supercharged 3800 engine put out hp wise? Is this something that would replace a V8 engine like the L99?....

I don't see it replacing the current V6 motor.

Maybe they are looking into this for gas mileage reasons. I don't know. Hey, it's a rumor as of now...maybe someone w/ GM motor knowledge can chime in and shed some light on the subject.

cool news on the greens. I know there will be a few people overjoyed with this news!

And get ready for the vert! I hear it's coming in the not too distant future! I hear they are to get back to work on that in a few weeks....hrm...hold on vert folks!!!

Might be a straight 6 like in the trailblazer.

This would be to make LS cheaper and get rid of the DI in the LS and the 6 speed.

I don't know if you could even put a solid axle and 4 speed automatic in it.

That's just my guess.

I don't think they will make eng changes to SS or LT's. If a bigger engine comes it will probably be the Z28 pkg.

Why would they need to make LS cheaper? To compete more against big push by Mustang and Genesis at entry price point.

MUCH MUCH rather have a darker green than a brighter green!

Would be sooo sweet. I hate to take it away from the Mustangs though, that bullitt green is a mustang icon one could say.

WHATEVER. I'd wear that green on a Camaro. Let's just call it a universal muscle car green.

Well let me just say that stuff about the LS and the straight has probably nothing to do with the 3800 rumor lol I just don't see why they would want another option like that.

Here is the Vortec 4200 I was thinking of btw.

i think the FI 3800 would give more mileage to offset a z28 in CAFE

Yes, that is how much the last generation V6's put out.. I know because a few friends bought them... They were billed as world class engines back then.. Remember the competition which was the Mustangs V6 at that time was a 3.8 liter 150HP engine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_V6_engine

Series II

Introduced in 1995, the Series II is quite a different engine. Although the stroke for the 3.8 L engine remained at 3.4 in (86 mm), and the bore remained at 3.8 in (97 mm), the engine architecture was vastly changed. The deck height is shorter than the Series I, reducing weight and total engine package size. This required that the piston connecting rods be shortened 1 in (25 mm), and the crankshaft was also redesigned. A new intake manifold improved breathing while a redesigned cylinder head featured larger valves and a higher compression ratio. The result was 205 hp (153 kW) and 230 lb·ft (312 N·m), better fuel economy, and 26 lb (12 kg) lighter overall weight (to 392 lb (178 kg)). The 3800 weighs only 22 lb (10.0 kg) more than the High Feature V6, despite being an all cast iron design.

The new intake manifold greatly improved breathing. To meet emissions standards, an EGR tube was placed in the intake manifold to reduce combustion temperatures. This increases fuel mileage by a substantial margin.

The 3800 Series II was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 1995 through 1997.

GM recalled 1.5 million vehicles with this engine on April 14, 2009.[4]

The most built GM V6 is probably the 4.3L though. It's a 350 with 2 cyl's chopped off. I have one in my Blazer and it's good motor.

I heard this engine rumor as well but just didn't make sense to me. Why would they offer a 3.8 next to a 3.6? Maybe the 3.6 is going to get punched out to a 3.8.

That's why I was thinking they would get the LS a 4 Cyl.
(runs to hide behind chicken wire at the stage).

Ok What I mean.. is a 6 with 2 cyl's that turn off for AFM like the L99. Yea.. I know it sucks.. but just thinking about the market.

Because LS does not need 300 HP and a 6 speed transmission.

Ford's new strategery is to dump cheap base mustangs and to grab sport coupe Market share. Problem is they can offer them 5 grand or more below what Chevy can do. Cause of the independent rear end, better eng and tranny, Chevy can't offer that cheap. So... you make LS cheaper to counter that move. Just what I am thinking it's of course no GM rumor just a "what I would do if".

And it does not hurt the performance models of the Camaro, it probably would help protect SS production by showing more MPG and cheaper prices. A decoy.

EEK! I hope that doesn't mean an FI'd 3.8L for the Z28...

If the green rumors are true, GM may have found a way to convince me to buy a new coupe soon rather than wait and buy a used 'vert later on. Good decision lads!

The Buick engine rumor, I dunno about that. Sounds a little far fetched to me. What is that even being used in currently? Not saying it isn't true, just that I'll need a bit more supporting evidence before I buy into it. So what are the specs on the thing?

they're probably going to use this as an option against ford's new ECOBoost motors, a fi'd v6 with good mileage.
