1LE for everyday driver

I use my SS as an everyday driver in nice weather. How does the 1LE do? I assume pretty much the same? Do you guys see any reason to not just trade in my 11 SS and get a 1LE? It seems to have a bunch of the upgrades that I wanted to do.

Not specific to the 1LE, but the Hill Start Assist on the 2013 Camaros is extremely annoying. Make sure you test drive a 2013 on some hills to see if you can live with it. Had I known how invasive it was, I would have looked for a 2010-2012 Camaro instead.

If you're getting an SS get the 1LE. I personally would choose the 1LE package over the RS AND 2SS if money was an issue.

I drive mine every day.

It is my DD. The hill assist is easy to avoid, just keep it out of gear until you are ready to move. I usually take it out of gear and roll to a stop, and if on a slope keep it out until green. I place in 1st and stay still or slowly move forward, no burning clutch either.

No way would I not buy the 1LE just because of the hill assist. 50% of the stop lights in WI are on a hill and it needs to be somewhat steep to activate. There are a ton of reasons to buy this car! Don't let someone talk you out of buying it over something so insignifcant!!!!

Not trying to talk the OP out of 1LE because of HSA. But since he mentions DD, I suggested that he test drive a 2013 himself, so he can form his own opinion on how it may or may not impact his own commute.

Don't get me wrong, I love my 1LE, and one blast through the twisties is enough to forgive all HSA infractions. It's just that my particular commute is a lot of stop and go, and it's not always possible to avoid HSA activation.

If you don't buy a 1LE because of the HSA.....FAIL!

NO WAY in hell is the HSA a deal breaker for passing on a 1LE IMO.

I'm thrilled with mine and the HSA is a minor inconvenience at worst. Mine is lowered and still very liveable as a DD

Hill assist really isn't an issue. In fact I really like it. If someone tailgates you it will trigger it making an otherwise stressful start a piece of cake.

Engages on slight inclines. So if you were about to be rear ended. You have no choice but to enjoy full force impact. where in a regular vehicle you can simpily take those two seconds and either move out of the way, or at least let your brakes off. And since I know some people who can cut a 1.8 sec 60 ft on stock tires, you cant say that two seconds isnt important if your trying to avoid an accident

First of all it won't engage on slight inclines unless someone is tailgating you. Secondly it doesn't engage for a fixed time period only until you start moving the car forward. Yes if you don't actually apply any throttle you sit there, but your scenario would never happen...

And lastly it doesn't prevent all movement only backwards. My '13 1le with hill start doesn't work anything like you described. I drive up an inclined freeway on-ramp with a signal at the top everyday going home so I have bit of experience with this feature.

This feature was confusing to me at first. I would end up doing mini-burnouts each time it engaged, but once I figured it out, I really liked it.

No. this is not true. The HSA *does* in fact prevent movement in both directions, and *does not* disengage until after 2 seconds have elapsed. HSA activates when you're facing downhill and put it in reverse, as well.
I've got nothing but hills around here, so i deal with it quite a bit. It could be that you use just enough brake pressure when it activates that your car muscles through it when you go forward, but it is still applied until 2 seconds are up. This is one of the work-arounds brought up in another HSA thread, where all the aspects and workarounds found so far are discussed in detail.

anyway, to the OP's question i love the hell out of driving my car (snapped strut issue aside), and would love to drive it everyday. the ride is damn near perfect, IMO. but i kept my cavalier around for a DD because i can't beat the mpg, gas is insane out here, and my drive to work is only a little over 4 miles, which imo is just a crap thing to do to a nice V8. so, my camaro is a weekend toy until i leave the island.

Funny I just drive away normally and it disenges as soon as I move forward...

As far as how it knows someone is close behind you The same sensors that tell you when something is close when you are backing up... Pay close attention next time it engages on slight incline someone was very close behind you.

Hill start isn't voodo once you actually figure out how it works.


And back to the op question, yes the 1le is a very fun car for a daily driver

Mine certainly does'nt work like that. I don't even have backup sensors on my car and the damn brakes lock tight with no one behind me at all.
