No...it's limited to the top speed those 18"s are rated at...so if you buy an LS...you get the 118 mph speed limiter...but if you buy a 1LT or 2LT the limiter is set at 155 mph.

its so much more fun to decide GM just arbitrarily set a limiter on a car to screw with their customers though I guess......

I have after market wheels. so what do I need to go to the dealer and have them change it or just wait for a tune, to switch everything

You cant post about street racing on c5 this thread will likely be deleted. If you didnt have a base model your speed limiter would be at 155 but your LS limiter is 118. You wouldve lost anyways if you have a 2ls. & you need a tune to remove the limiter

A tune will fix the problem but a dealer will not.

If you want to remove the limiter, you need a tune. No way around it. All camaros without pirellis (1LS, 2LS, and 1LT non RS) are limited to 118. All the others are limited at 155

Some LS models including my car and a couple others on this site do not have there limiter set to 118. I guess some slipped through during production

I have a 1LT non-RS and it's limiter was NOT set at 118 mph before I got it tuned. My Synergy Edition came with 19" wheels and no 118 limit.

I just posted this yesterday, but here you go again:

As others have said, it has to do with the wheel/tire package the car comes with.

Check out the official Chevy specs here. Look on page 24, labeled "Performance." It shows the following:
  • ZL1 (manual coupe): 180 MPH
  • ZL1 (automatic coupe): 184 MPH
  • ZL1 (convertible, either auto or manual): 155 MPH
  • SS (any variety): 155 MPH
  • V6 (19" or larger wheels/tires): 155 MPH
  • V6 (18" wheels): 113 MPH

OP, the information has been available from the get-go. You could have known before buying. Now your only option (outside of selling and buying a different car) is to tune it out.

Thanks for the information. I didn't know about that. I got the car from my brother because he didn't want it anymore. he was the original owner

I haven't found any roads yet that has a 150mph speed limit, so I don't know what my limiter is set at, I did set my speed warning to 80 though...
