CTS V coupe vs 2014 GT500

I thought you guys here on the Camaro 5 would enjoy this video. Last Friday night at Famoso test and tune in Bakersfield. I made 2 passes. The weather was HOT, 98 degrees at 10pm, DA was 3506'. I arrived at 8pm and let the car sit 2 hours. I decided to look for a fun race and found a new 2014 Shelby GT500 with performance pack and track pack. Car was about 3 weeks old but the owner had just sold his 2007 GT500, so he had experience. I have a 2012 CTS V coupe, 6-speed manual, AIRAID CAI and a tune (RPM Motors, Charlie, Santa Clarita) otherwise all stock, my 3rd time at the track with the V (but not my 3rd trip) I'm 66 years old and been driving stick shift cars since 1964 (my senior year), so I challenged the GT500 since he was also on street tires. Like I said the weather was hot so the times aren't great....but nobody was running that good. My buddy filmed the race on his phone, but he owns a 2011 GT500 so he was pulling for the Ford, our friend Mike says to him ("the old guy can drive"), thus the "shut your mouth Michael" comment....and I think the crowd wanted the GT500 also...based on the groans at the finish. Here's the result:
CTS V...RT .002, 60' 2.228, 1/8th mile 8.368 @ 91.66, 1/4 mile 12.637 @ 116.23

GT500 ..RT .304, 60' 2.238, 1/8th mile 8.407 @ 89.94, 1/4 mile 12.696 @ 116.59

winning margin .3618 (about 3 cars)

I also ran a new 2013 Camaro ZL1 an hour later. The ZL1 was stock, 6-speed manual also. Result:

CTS V...60' 2.202, 1/8th mile 8.423 @ 90.58, 1/4 mile 12.706 @ 115.61

ZL1......60' 2.257, 1/8th mile 8.601 @ 87.13, 1/4 mile 13.043 @ 111.21

Enjoy the video

I looked at that video really close at the beginning...especially the tail lights. I am pretty sure that is not a 2014 or 2013 GT500. Those years had the led tail lights. The 2010- 2012 GT500 had that style depicted in the video. I would guess that car to be 2010-2012 which has similar HP rating to the CTS-V, hence the closeness of the race and the CTS-v pulling off the win.

Pretty sure the 2013 GT500 already went 11.6-11.7 STOCK @ 123-125 multiple times.

Plus this GT500's 116.59 mph trap speed is still faster then the v's 116.23 mph

Are we talking cars are driving skill here? Either way the GT500 ran faster speed not quicker then this V and it gained more mph after the 1/8.

It seems like you jumped the gun, although I don't know much about drag racing.

That is not a '13 or '14 GT500. It is a'10 thru '12 GT500 and that year model ran low 12's stock with a decent driver. Look at the tail lights, definitely not current GT500 with 5.8l Trinity motor.
The caddy LS motor and a 5.4l Condor motor run very close quarter mile times against each other and have similar stock HP.

Don't get me wrong, I love those V cars, but you had an aftermarket cai and a tune running up against a stock GT500, correct? You're not getting a bunch from the cai, but the tune is probably helping you out a bunch.
If the stang had a JLT Big Air and a tune, it would have been different. That's just my opinion. Nice racing though.

Agree, not a 2014 or a 13 mustang

A little of both I went and looked around the interwebs for videos of actual runs at the strip and "other" places. Seemed very rare to see a V lose in either case stock v stock against 12 and earlier gt500. as far as the 13+, with 100 less hp and 200-300 lbs extra weight the V should be a pretty easy kill but its more of a drivers race which if the gt500 driver brings his A game should win.

Races between those two usually go down like this during magazine testing.

A 13/14 5.8 GT500 will walk a CTSV with a tune pretty easily, the Shelby in that video was a 10-11-12 with the 5.4

It was definitely a 2014 (per the owner) because it had the Perf. Pack wheels and the owner said it had the track pack also. I shopped the GT500 before deciding to buy the CTS V. I preferred the looks and interior over the mustang (although the 662 hp was tempting). The owner had owned a previous 2007 GT500 that he traded in for this one. It was ordered the way it sits with every option but the glass roof. He was not a bad driver, remember the temperature was still 98.1 degrees at 10pm, the DA was 3,500+, none of the cars were turning great times. My CTS V was about .5 sec and 3 mph slower than when the DA was 1,200' in May. The GT500 made 2 other passes (all about the same speed) and on the run against me he was .36 mph faster (116.59 vs 116.23).

Wrong. It was a 2014. I think the 285 stock tires(on the GT500) may have helped me win. It was 3 weeks old and that was his first 1/4 mile pass in the car.

Yes it was, I saw the 5.8 on the blower when he had the hood up after our run.
