HUD (heads up display) availability?

Hello.
I thought the hud option was supposed to be available starting this summer. Anybody know when?

HUD - heads up display.

I've never heard this discussed for the Camaro. Should would be kewl, but I think this is likely something that GM would reserve for the Z-28 or other higher-end variants...

Probably a second year model addition as of now, or maybe this fall. But it has been discussed many times on here and was/is going to be an option eventually.

This was discussed awhile back. I know I was really disappointed to learn HUD wouldn't be an option. From what I can remember I believe our best hope for HUD was that it might be an option in a future model year.

I have read in several places Dec 09. In fact it is in the Camaro "rebirth" book stating that as the target date. The HUD was not included initially as an attempt to bring the parts count down (same reason for the delay in summit white). I expect we will see it in December. It would be great to get another update from someone at GM on this subject.

What did they have to say about the completion date for the Ambient Lighting? Will it be finished at the same time HUD comes out?

I have doubts that a book which was written before the Camaro hit showroom floors would have anything about a fix for the Ambient Lighting being the problem came up in the last days before launch.

Next year model at least would be my guess for the hud. They have enough supplier issues to worry about. Then again with Vette sales very slow the company that makes the vette hud, same company probably they will use, might want to sell some.

How can books on the death of Michael Jackson be coming out in the next couple of weeks if there's such a lag in publishing?

They're not using moveable type and presses anymore.

I just moved so I will have to wait till I unpack to get any further info from the book. From what I can tell they have quotes from as late as Jan-Feb this year so I think it was pretty timely. As far as discussions about ambient lighting I don't believe there are any.

My dealer told me when I ordered my car in January that HUD should be installed by the time I got my car in June, obviously that wasn't the case. I doubt if a retrofit will be able to be done on a car without it if HUD becomes standard.

Your dealer was an idiot. You can't retro fit the HUD (when ever it does come out) to a non HUD glass windshield. Either you wait or get a aftermarket one (which I wouldn't do).

I would guess with some of the vets here, next model should have it, the 2011's.

At Carlisle Pennsylvania, there was a 2010 Camaro walkaround with the top Camaro members (from GM) and I specifically asked them that question. They said you will have to wait and see. It was an excellent show.

HUD is a nice option, I've had it in the last few C5s, and C6s. But If it cost anything I don't think I'd order it other then for resale value. The "G" meter is kinda kewl, as well as the Nav data in the HUD but again I don't really ever even used it past the first month I got the car. Most of the time I have it dialed down anyway.

I found my book. Here is what is said by Cheryl Pilcher in the book Camaro a Legend Reborn " We had it in but they went through a period of reducing part numbers so it was knocked out" "as it turns out the cost savings they thought were going to be there were not so it got back in though it won't be available until the end of calender year 2009"

So there you have it, straight from the boss.

By the way this book is excellent and a must have for anyone who is buying this car. I wish they would offer it signed by the design and engineering staff that created this masterpiece.

It wont happen for the '10 Camaros. They said initially that they would ba available in December but that is out of date info. They later pushed the date back to June 2010, or the beginning of the '11 model year. As for retrofitting it, it is perfectly possible. Most of the people who had Grand Prixs and broke a windshield had it replaced with a regular one and had no problems. The glass isn't different, they just have to be inspected to make sure there is no waviness in the glass where the reflection is or it could be blurry. Modern windshields don't generally have this problem so people could get away with adding it.
