Empty your catch can

How many miles do you put on before anything gets in your catch can. I drove 150 miles and noticed some oil in it. Is that normal?

It depends on how you drive. The catch can really collects oil during WOT runs because this is when the engine will experience reversion. A little oil collected after 150 miles is normal. I go about 1,000 miles before emptying it or sooner if I do a lot of WOT!

That's what I'm getting as well. About an ounce every few hundred miles or so.

After emptying mine first at 1,000 then 2,000 then 3,000 miles I have come to the conclusion that I will empty it just before every oil change, which for me is around 5,000 miles.

Typically every oil change, or twice between oil changes if you do a lot of WOT or in the winter as it will also catch condensation.

Best regards,

Tyler

Every 1000 miles and I catch about 2 ounces consistently. The can is big enough I could go much longer than that but my curiosity gets the best of me right around every 1000 miles.

Like the others have said, the general rule of thumb is to empty it when you change your oil.

Every oil change. I do some spirited driving, but not enough to change it before then.

I generally just look at it every now and then and just empty it whenever i feel like it. But in 1000 miles i generally catch a few ounces.
