Muscular sounding V6?
To me, the V6 sounds too...V6-ish, and doesn't have enough of that good ol' American rumble. Are tehre any exhausts that make it sound more grumbly?

There's no such thing. Don't get me wrong, you can make it sound good, but then you'll eventually have to press the gas.

We had my V6 Mustang sounding absolutely INCREDIBLE at start up and idle! I would have guys run over drooling saying, "what have you got in that thing!" And then I would hit the gas and get to 3500 RPM and it simply sounded HORRID! I was actually embarrassed to drive it due to the nasty, raspy sound! With a V6 you get a V6 sound... You cannot change the physics of the motor... You can however get a good V6 performance sound! It just will never rumble like an 8.. |

WHAT PEOPLE NEED TO REALIZE IS THAT A PUSHROD V6 AND A 4 OVERHEAD VALVE CAR CANT SOUND THE SAME. Thats all, a 2000 camaro v6 will sound more like a ls v8...
Secondly its the fact that its not a 90 degreed v6 like audi a4 etc... its a 60 degrees therefore theres not the same time lapse between firing intervals than a 90 degrees or a boxer 6 cylinder or inline 6 or a vr6 for that matter... Any 60 degrees 4 valve engine sounds 99% the same...listen to a 350z/370z g37 or even a challenger v6 4 valve...SAME DAMN THING |

My old roommate has a Mustang (2000 give or take a few years) with a V6 that rumbles quite nice. The tone is low and it never sounds raspy. I'm gonna go check out what setup hes got and keep an ear out for similar products for the Camaro. If it's anything special I'll post it here.

dont listen to any of these guys saying it wont..cars ive owned in the past and even cars my friends have owned, 99.9% of the time they were told their 4's or 6's would sound like shit, and all of those times they sounded great. while maybe not a "true" muscle sound in most respects is achievable, a muscle sound that sounds quite wicked is achievable.

You're never going to get the true V8 sound. Sorry - thems the rub.
BUT you can certainly get it to sound deep, give it a growl, give it a rasp, etc. etc. all depending on your goals and the setup you use. Exhausts are complicated systems. Just keep your ear open for something that sounds the way you want it to. PM me with your sound/performance goals if you want more specific advice on how to get there. - X

Actually there was a muffler and exhaust company (I don`t recall who) that was experimenting with sound wave technology (similar to the way Bose uses wave technology in their audio systems) to obtain deeper bass sounds in their exhaust systems. That in my opinion would be the only way you might obtain a deep V8 tone for V6`s and smaller displacement engines.

I think I'd be happy to get rid of the rasp at higher rpm.

v8 sound from a v6
I traded in an Audi s6 with a v10, the v6 I have now sounds great, it sounds crisp, clean and does not guzzle gas like it was born thirsty. I like the sound of my car, its different and after just under 500 miles, I dont want to change things at all. Its not that Chevy cant do better I am sure they can but I think for the money and for the build you get one heck of a car. I like driving it, sounds good, and it goes really well. So for what it is worth, enjoy what you got. There is always another better more wonderful thing just over the horizon, grass is always greener and all that jazz. Buy what you can afford and then spend time getting to know the car, enjoy the car and after a while the sound will be like music in your ears.
Yeah I know what everyone thinks but why go out on a date with Jessica Alba and wished you were out with Kira Knightly, (probably botched the name, sorry) Both are good, enjoy. |

Both sound good. No nasty fart can sound, and it doesn't sound like a beehive shoved in a coffee can, so it's all good. The V6 and the V8 both sound like American Muscle.

being as how nissan has been out for a long while with their line of engines, the GM 3.6 DI must sound more like "Japanese Muscle".

Im glad to have mine soo quiet..i love a good deep low decibel growl/rumble not the loud crackling and popping most peoples car do..But even if i had an 8 in my car ive always wanted an incredibly quiet car that is almost inaudible. Mine is stock so you guys that own 6s already know how quiet they are..Im afraid any work done to try to simulate a V8 will result in the "weed eater" or "pissed off bumble" (not the transformer) sound like the trashy coffee can exhaust found on most 6s now-a-days.LOL. Thats just my opinion though..After all the engine upgrades im gonna do soon im gonna try to keep it as quiet as possible. But id love to actually hear a 6 with a nice "growl" to it.

Get a V8 thats the only way. Other then that don't make it sound like something you don't have. Be happy with what you got and I've heard some nice sounding exhaust systems on V6's.

It already has the nicest stock note I have heard on a v6. Only 6 sound I like more are the straight 6 250's like the 2nd gen's had.
They should make LS with the 4200 Vortec imo*. |

doesnt sound that great imo, i like the sound of the flowmaster 40s better, but that might be just me. Flowmaster doesnt have that high pitched whine.
