(Well, honestly I don't know that there's an 'official' way to do it, I've seen the '69 Camaros listed both ways, as well as ours)

SS/RS.

SS is the model
RS is just an appearance package. Model always comes first.

I always said RS/SS. It is an RS packaged SS. Back in the day we would always say i.e. I just seen a '69 RS?SS convertible go by!

SS/RS since the RS package is just an option on the SS.

Really? That would be someone who has no clue what the "RS" signifies. You can drive a SS, but you can't drive a trim package (RS).

I always said RS/SS when referencing 1st gens and had always heard others use that order aswell growing up. I now use it when talking about 5th gens too.

I remember it being RS/SS. I searched online and found many more references to RS/SS than the reverse. See one link below referring to a Baldwin-Motion RS/SS Camaro.

Thanks that is what I was referring to. This new generation does not understand the RS/SS thing from the first gens. Of course it can be used either way.

Im sure all of you guys who say SS/RS are most likely under the age of 30. For those of us who are older it has always been RS/SS. Back in the day you could buy a RS , RS/SS ,SS , RS/Z/28 , Z/28. Did I miss any not including the ZL-1 or COPO?

This is how in understand it.
In the 5th Gen the LS, LT and SS Camaros are considered separate models, RS is a option package available only on LT and SS models. Thus for the 5th Gen it is generally put as 1LT/RS, 2LT/RS or 1SS/RS, or 2SS/RS.
Back in the first Gen both RS, SS and Z/28 were all considered option packages available on the Camaro Sport Coupe not separate models, the RS package was available on All Camaros in combination with the other option packages, thus it was usually designated a RS, RS/SS or RS/Z/28
Look at your window sticker and see what model it is designated, that should go first.
But you can call it whatever you want.

There is no chevy badge for RS/SS.

SS's get an SS badge in red (w/ RS package) or SS badge in White (w/o rs package)

V6's will have the red RS badge.

That being said, its most commonly said as RS/SS , RS/Z28, etc historically.

Now that the cars come with a number (1 or 2), the SS tends to go first like 2SS/RS or 1SS/RS. But thats really only language on this forum. The "1" and "2" mean nothing to most people. So out in the world, and anyone with a generation before the 5th gen, I usually hear RS/SS.

I think of the "RS" more as an adjective and the "SS" as the noun/subject of the adjective.

Why the hell are we arguing over this anyway.
