Fuel choices
I just picked up a 1972 Camaro and am in the process of shaking it down and getting it where I want it to be (and should be IMO). part of it is fuel. Previous owner just used pump 92-93. I use VP fuels (nice to get free delivery) and use Q16 on one of my other cars. I'd like to not stock 2 fuels but I think Q16 isn't for this Camaro. Thinking more around a C12 or sports 109 unleaded.
Setup: 496 stroked with 871 blower 8.15:1 CR. Dual Holley 750 double pumper carbs SCA forged 4340 Crankshaft w/ 4.25 stroke Callies (Compstar) 4349 forged H beam rods JE wrist pins and spiro lock retainers QS-9000 Howards Solid roller camshaft .702 Lift, 308/314 Duration Any thoughts from others with close to similar setup on preferred fuels? I am looking for a starting point and the car will get a dyno tune once some other basics are taken care of. |

I'd ask on www.yellowbullet.com to be honest.
Q16 we've used to make 2200 HP. YB guys would ask you for timing and what boost/pulleys.

YB site hasn't loaded for me for days. Like a constant refresh or something. Anyway, can't load it.
I use Q16 on a v6 turbo application at 35-40psi. It gives me a little bit better than the C16. Nice fuel but I don't think the 496 needs that much octane. As a starting place or input I just thought I'd check and see what others with same setup are liking or prefer. |

The seller paperwork said: "believe it is currently at -2.8% under driven with 35 teeth on the top pulley". So that's all I know at this point. He hadn't even broke in the engine yet and it's not been tuned properly AFAIK.
As you can see I am starting without a lot of info like that. Hence my wanting to check up on some basics. |

Thanks John. Will look at that. Although right now I am more looking for an established speed shop with dyno like Blood Enterprises rather than someone on facebook.

C12 will be just fine for your setup with good results. I used to run VP C16 in my car and have since switched to running Renegade Fuels 116 and am very happy with results and much better price point.

496, Ellis has been tuning and working on LS and LT cars for 10 years. Best of luck.

He is a ways away from my location though and doesn't appear he has a dyno which I prefer to use. |
