Z28 Suspension

Looking threw all the info not seeing suspention listed? Thought i could see in one of the interior pictures the same mag ride PTM bottons like the ZL1, so are we suspecting mag ride or 1LE struts and springs? or Z28 specific set up?

The tires are the biggest part of the suspension change for the Z28 based on what I have read about them, they are using a tire that is 60 treadwear which has incredible grip based on reports from guys running them on Porsches...so add the same tires and wheel sizes to your Camaro with ZL1 sways and Supercar Coilovers, and you're probably in the same ballpark...

The Camaro Z/28 is the one of the first production cars fitted with race-proven, spool-valve dampers. Compared to a conventional damper that offers only two-way tuning for bump and rebound, a spool-valve damper allows four-way adjustment to precisely tune both bump and rebound settings for high-speed and low-speed wheel motions. The wider tuning range allowed engineers to dramatically increase the damper stiffness on the Camaro Z/28 without a significant change in ride quality. Additional chassis changes include stiffer string rates and suspension bushings for improved cornering response.

Not yet. With a square setup its plausible it has the current 1LE bars but you never know since everything else has been altered.

Maybe get justicepete in on this conversation. Pedders was the first to be able to get a 305 tire up front. I'd be willing to bet pedders played a very big role in the suspension.

The 305/30/19s are a no brainer for many reasons. They lower the car and inch with no compromise at all to suspension geometry. The smaller wheel takes out rotating mass and unsprung weight. The balance, construction and operating dynamics of the 5th Gen demand a very wide front tire. Pedders has been running 305/30/19 since 2009 and proving the value of that wheel and tire package on track for three years. We knew how good the setup was and so did everyone else.

You do know that those big money people in the front office have been talking too and working with Pedders since the Grand AM prototype was built at the Milford Proving Grounds. We supplied that GM TEAM with bushes before the production vehicle existed. You do know that GM has been buying Pedders parts for special builds for years. I would also think you would know that Pedders was at Milford to assist the TEAM with the installation of Pedders parts on the Camaro Pace Cars. Pedders and GM have been talking Camaro and Camaro suspension for years. I was a guest at the Z/28 introduction. At dinner that evening I sat next to a Camaro TEAM engineer. We had one of those I think we have met before moments. I forget names, but I never forget people or the context of our interactions. Just before dessert I remembered. We met at building #27 and talked about XXXXXXX by the coffee pot.

The lead engineer for the Z/28 is Mark Stielow. Mark is more than an engineer. He is a car guy. Mark has been building Pro-Touring cars for 20 years. He is a multiple OPTIMA Champion. We have known each other since 2009 when Pedders first ran the OPTIMA Challenge with Paul Tracy behind the wheel of our Camaro. Our lap times at Gingerman in the Pedders USA Camaro have been discussed at GM. Could be that my favorite driver from GM, engineer John Buttermore, nailed those lap times. It could be that executives like Dr. Jamie. Cliff Cohen and Bob Kern have experienced hot laps in the PUSA Camaro. The first time the Lingenfelter L/28 ran a hot lap it wa the 8th fastest car on the road course at the OPTIMA. Or it could be that the 5th fastest time at the 2012 OPTIMA was put down by the Lingenfelter L/28 from a standing start before the driveline coupler failed on the first hot lap. No one from GM ever talks to me about anything

Back to Mark Stielow and the Z/28. Mark is a brilliant engineer, builder and driver. The Z/28 is his baby. He did a brilliant job with it and I do not claim any credit for the work he and all the other GM engineers put into the Z/28. All I have to say is they did a fantastic job!

Nothing firm....I was given an idea, but everything is subject to change so we will all have to wait and see.

My 2 cents worth- Michelin Pilot Super Sports have a wear rating of 300.
LOL- the Z's tires are gonna stick like glue, but man you better order the replacements before you leave the house cuz you may need a new set when you get home!

305/30/19 Bridgestone RE-11s will give you great grip and some decent tire life.

I'd be real careful about sticking too well on long sweeping turns that sustain 1+G. The Z28 is drysump so no issues there. The LS3 is another story. Keeping oil up to the critical components in the heads are an issue.

No R compounds for me. I thought about running an Accusump but figured the car was getting too damn complex as it is.

I only plan on the occasional track day, no competition....so no worries.
