How screwed am I?

Hi All,

I have a slow leak in one of my wheels, and unfortunately I can not locate my key. How screwed am I? Also, is there any suggestions on how to unscrew myself? I remember the back said J28, if that helps at all. These are for the 21" wheels on the 2013 Hotwheels edition.

I imagine most tire/wheel shops will be able to get them off for you with or without the key. It might damage the lugs though.

You are referring to a wheel-lock key right?

Worst case I'm sure the dealer can get you another key for the locks.

Spoke with them first thing, and they can not. Apparently every set is different blah blah blah. It occurs to me that all they need to do is randomize where they ship the locks to, and simply create about 100 different versions. How likely is it that x lock will be in x location then. But I digress.

Hey if the tire shop cant get it off heres an idea. Take a piece of clay and get an impression of the lock and have a shop make a piece of metal that has the groves. Would be a last resort since it Probably would be pretty expensive but could work.

I'm pretty sure Sears sells a tool for like $40 that you can take any lug off with.

I read a thread on a G35 forum about a member who had his wheels stolen even with locks on. Poor guy had his car parked in his own driveway, walked out to his nice G35 sitting on blocks...

Just hammer the appropriate 12 point socket on the lock and it will come off with a breaker bar. Don't use an impact and make sure you use a junk socket.

A lot of tire stores have a key for many different locks...at least my guy does, depending on the lock brand, some don't have that many combinations...and as others pointed, slamming a 12pt socket over it does work depending on the lugnut style...

They got the locks off, all is well, just took forever. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Going to buy a few of the items listed above just incase of future issues.

Obviously it not safe to carry your key in the car but here is what I do. I find a hidden place in the engine bay and zip tie the key. This way no one can find it but its always there when I need it.

I just throw the key into the glove box in an old 35mm film canister.

If they are in my car, going through my glove box looking for the lug key, i'd rather them get the wheels than steal the whole car to get the wheels...

You can also tape it to the bottom of the trunk insert. I personally have mine in the cup holder
