Roger that, I agree. It seems they just need to concentrate on the performance aspects...

Very doubtful being a tune would mess with the emissions. All the "tuning" that will be done by GM was done in preproduction.

I know but my first thought is Harley. You can get into a bike at a decent price but the saying is the bike is just the down payment on the accessories. Because of emissions these things are restricted pretty bad but all you have to do is "pay the Harley Tax" and youve got yourself a start. Jetting the carb exhaust just for starters to wake this baby up and this is done by Harley and warrantied so why cant GM do it! OH well just wishful thinkin on my part but can you imagine the money that could be made by a GM performance division such as screaming eagle does for Harley make it a lifestyle!

These cars are tuned to get the best balance between power and fuel economy by GM and that will never change since it keeps warranty costs down.

GM may sell tunes thru GM Performance Parts in the future. This would let them sell the car making everything fine at time of sale. That is when it counted the cars coming off the line. After that they can do basically what they want. So they sell us good tunes and we still get to keep our warranties.

People don't buy the SS for economy, they buy it for performance!

Neither of these are true. They have a stage 2 upgrade tune for the now dead Solstice/Sky platforms. Nice upgrade for them to around 300hp.

I just heard from somebody that just got a new automatic SS, the dealer said they had a new tune to increse HP by about 40--maybe a fix forthe "slow" automatic cars?

Ok, I will admit that I don't know exactly what a "tune" is on an automatic.

Can someone enlighten me?

It is a reflash of the stock computers setting to get the most out of the car in simple terms.

Ok, thanks. WHat is the estimated cost on something like this?

Just depends kind of hard to just give an estimate. Id look to see if there were anyone in your area doing custom tuning and give them a call.

I agree, but that's just what my brother the GM mechanic has told me.

No cost, this would be warranty work. You can ONLY get it from the dealer. They will be able to tell which cars are elegible by the VIN #. Cars built on a certain date or before will be elgible. You may have to Push the service manager since this is not a "recall" issue but a driveability issue.

HUH? What are you talking about. He was asking about what a tune was. It would have nothing to do with your service manager. If you had the cash and GM was offering one thru the GMPP then you could pay-up and get a performance oriented tune for your stocker. Hes not asking about a reflash for update/issues.

Actually, that's probably exactly what he's referring to without realizing it. GM isn't offering any performance tunes for Auto right now, aside from the problems they're dealing with. They're most likely dealing with all the complaints for a lack of power with the L99. Plus, you're not going to get a 40 HP boost from a regular flash-tune from GM.

Exactly hes talking about the l99 cars. Dakota was asking what a tune was and how much. Was not talking about the l99 issue.
