2013 1SS/RS LS3 SIM

Hey All

Here's the build thread for my 2013 SS. I've wanted one for almost seven years and finally pulled the trigger. I signed the papers on 5/18/13 and picked it up on 5/23/13 after the dealer installed a clear bra.

I had been looking around for a used SS M6 in silver but was having trouble finding one (lots of V6s and A6s!). I started looking at new Camaros and found one that fit my needs at a dealership. I called them to let them know I was interested and wanted to drive it. On my 30 minute drive to the dealership, they sold it! I was really bummed. A couple days later I found another one with more options than I wanted but was able to get the price worked out.

Here it is at the dealership:

Here it is after bringing it home:

First mod was a CAI intake that I found used from a former Camaro owner in town. He also told me about the fuel reflash. I reflashed, didn't really notice a difference.

Finally settled on a rear license plate bracket. ASOIAF ftw!

Installed a skip-shift eliminator last night. I was really surprised the first time I saw that message. I wanted the manual so I could decide which gear I want to be in!

When I bought the car, I wasn't sure I liked the look of the dovetail spoiler. It's starting to grow on me but I may end up making a change if I can figure out how to cover the holes.

I have a heritage grill, air scoop, washer bottle relocation, SLP LM1 axle-back, rear bowtie in black, and Elite catch can to install. Hard to find the time these days.

The heritage grille is going to look great once you get it installed. I think it's the best looking grille in my opinion.

Finally got around to installing a few items.

I cut the mufflers off with a hacksaw (took a while and made me pretty sore) and installed SLP Loudmouth 1 axleback exhaust. I still can't believe how big the stock mufflers are.

Here it is after installation. Had to use the flash because I finished late in the night. I bought the LM1 used from a local Camaro owner and he painted the pipes behind the tips black with heat-treated paint. I think it helps clean it up a bit. Love that independent rear!

I absolutely love the sound now. This may be the worst fuel mileage mod I could put on because now I want to hold my shifts to higher RPMs so I can listen to the rumble!

I've had the heritage grille sitting in my garage for a few weeks and finally had the time to install last weekend.

I bought the retro SS emblem and mounting pad from Emblem Pros for the heritage grille. I went with the silver inlay option on the 'SS' hoping it would match the SIM closely enough. I'm really happy with it but it doesn't really seem very different from the regular white inlay from a distance. Looks great up close though!

While I had the front fascia off, I installed Apex's air scoop and washer bottle relocation. Took me a little while to cut-down the plastic piece that sits behind the lower grille so that the scoop fit properly. Still thinking about where I want to install my remote fill for the washer fluid.

Not sure if I notice much difference with the air scoop but it needs more experimentation (driving).

Installed an Elite Engineering catch can two weekends ago before a drive to Steamboat Springs. Install would have been easier with some snub-nosed pliers but I only had my Leatherman.

I went with Elite because I think it looks great, drains without a mess, and they are only a few miles from where I live.

I deleted the dealer badge (long overdue) and replaced the stock bowtie with a black, polished aluminum bowtie from RPI. Also plasti-dipped the taillight bezels. The bezels are subtle but it does clean up the back end nicely.

Also posting a picture near the lake.

I did some interior mods the last couple weekends that I'm very happy with.

The first was to remove my vinyl console lid cover and install a leather one with white stitching and the SS logo embroidered. I didn't want to pay $180 so I bought the leather cover off ebay and got the SS embroidered by a local shop. I'm very happy with how it turned out for the price.

The next thing I did was install stitched leather visor covers. Now I can't see those tacky warning labels and I like the stitched look.

Then I removed my old vinyl door armrests and replaced with leather armrests with stone stitching found in the 2SS models. More stitching!

Finally, I installed a used 4-pack gauge setup. I wasn't sure if I wanted this since the storage area does come in handy. Ultimately, I really liked the look and decided that since the cupholders aren't much good for drinks (with a manual) I'll just put stuff there instead. I'm very happy with the gauges and the install wasn't too bad thanks to Ofer's harness.
