WHIPPLE SC Vs. MAGNUSON SC

Hi All,

I have a 2011 Camaro SS (LS3) and I am getting a supercharger this year. I have done a lot of research between the Whipple Supercharger and the Magnuson supercharger and I literally could go with either one. Therefore, I created this thread to get your guys opinions on your experience with either of these superchargers and what do you recommend

My current Engine Mods are a RotoFab CAI and 1 7/8" ARH Long Tube Headers. What other engine modifications do you recommend to do at the same time in order to maintain the engine's durability.

Thanks

Josef

Who cares if you never write a best seller, and so what if you don't become the next .com gazillionaire, or get a multiyear deal to play in the big leagues, it doesn't matter, because you know how it feels to own a car that looks like a million bucks

I'm sure all you will hear what is better, is what they have on their car. That being said, Whipple is better. LOL

Curious about this one myself. I have a tvs 2300. No complaints but it is working hard to push a 427 inch motor. I know there are many factors in considering what is going to produce maximum efficiency for a particular combination. I know ADM listed his opinion on what the best blowers were. Seems GM uses the smallest one possible to achieve the desired performance level. I know the power comes in differently for the whipple and tvs. Don't know what that difference is. I have no issue with the tvs . I could use a little more volume at this point but I don't have it maxed out by any means.

You have a solid heads or tails there. Could throw Eforce in there just to muck up the thread.

It really comes down to Blower size for Goals Now and in the future.

All of the 2300 offerings are Solid Performers and will easily make 700 RWHP and with some massaging as much as 800 RWHP although difficult.

The Whipple 2900 Just gives you More Head room for Growth 800 RWHP is a bit easier and approaching 900 RWHP is doable.

We are Talking built Engines Not Stock for the Higher end of the spectrum for both.

I Really Like the Simplicity of the SLP TVS 2300 but they are All Very good.

SLP
Magnuson
Edelbrock use TVS 2300 rotors.
Whipple uses they own 2900 Rotors.

I like my Maggie...from JRE as well. I am at 650-680rwhp depending on dyno, I am on stock bottom end for a couple years now but only about 10000 miles but all driven hard and sporty driving. I am very pleased with the times at the track for an M6 and I think I still have a couple tenths left I in the car since my best time was run in the Florida summer heat. That being said I thought I was only going to go 550-600rwhp but I still crave more and almost wish I had went Whiple but they were brand new when I got my Maggie so I opted for the reliable brand with some history behind it on LS engines. Again very happy with the Maggie and it is all about our goals for the car.

I been looking for someone with your mods and has been to the track! First, what gear and rpm are you at when you hit the end of the 1/4? Thanks...

What kind of 60 foot times are you getting at the track?

Well always finish in 4th gear, I have ran 3.45 rear gear (stock) a 3.91 gear ( this was my fastest pass), and now I run a 3.73 gear. The 3.91 was just a little too low for the track so I went to a 3.73 but haven't made a pass yet with it but it should be really close to the 3.91.
I have a best 60ft of 1.54 on some 17" Bogarts and hoosier slicks.

That's a good 60'. My best in my M6 is 1.67 60'. That's with the stock gears. I was consistently in the 1.8 range. What clutch are you running?

Street Slayer Twin Carbon from Hendrix engineering. I think I have a 1.4x in it that was only my 3 pass on the slicks so still learning the launch for them.

Awesome. I just had the triple installed with my new engine. Can't wait till we here in SoCal get our 1/4 track back. If been thinking of switching to slicks vs drag radials.

Either of your choices will ensure you can keep the local tire shop in business for years to come.

OP,

While you have the car down for the blower install, take care of the cam and springs. Find a tuner to spec out your cam for a PD blower and get a good set of dual springs. I like Patriot gold and have a 3 bolt CompCam under my Maggie. It will make a huge difference!

You can't make a bad choice if you are going between Maggie and Whipple. Figure out what power level you want to be "at", then double it. If you can't get there with a Maggie, go whipple. lol.

I swore I wanted 550rwhp and would be happy with that. Then I hit 620rwhp and I'm still wanting more. The first time you get on it and realize it can take more, you want to give it more. I swear it's a disease. Once you catch it, it never stops.

Was in the exact same boat. Now that I've broke 800RWHP I don't figure any more would be useful on the streets.

Whipple has more potential out of the box and is a bit more efficient than the Maggie.

I have one of each...got the maggie first. But on the second car, I wanted to try the whipple. Can't go wrong either way. Both make great camaro kits. But if price is close, I'd go whipple. I do like the subtle whine that the whipple puts off.
