An underrated LS3 that is pushing a more realistic 455ish flywheel HP based on Dyno results.

I talked with my service manager whom i know, and told him about whats been flying around here about the motors being hand picked. He said no that that wouldn't happen, but that the 1LE's do have a hot tune, which explains the high horsepower we are putting out.

Really? I'll have to look back through the owners manual but don't recall seeing anything about having to use OEM filters. Dexos oil yes, filter no. And, filters are a wear item so... hmmm.

Airbox is the same. Motors are not hand picked. GM did switch to EPS Instead of hydraulic which frees up some parasitic loss. The NPP with valves open is also worth about 3. (Yes confirmed 3 ). There may have also been some other changes but GM will not recertify an engine to achieve a higher SAE HP rating that is one its way out. The LS3 will most likely only be around through the next two model years of the Camaro and then I would guess you will see an LT1 (see Corvette Stingray) due to higher MPG available to help meet the CAFE standards

L99 automatic V8
LS3 Manual V8

Agreed, but it is available on all 2013 for the first time. Same time the cars started dynoing 20-30whp higher than 2010 a 2012 LS3 equipt SS Camaros bone stock.

i still dont think it has much if any to do with it..... all it is is axle back. it doesnt effect the mid pipe, cats, manifold. i mean with the right pressure you can pull a few hp out of a cat back

Also agree. It is only worth 3whp.

There are other changes that contribute to this whp increase.

taking 10lbs off of tires/rims is the same as taking 100lbs off of the car itself.
lets let that one simmer.

It is entirely possible that certain components inside of the engine have been refined over the past 3 years which is why the newest models seem stronger than the 2010's. All of the components are checked and there will be allowable tolerances. Components outside of the tolerances will be discarded. They will constantly look for ways to improve the tooling and manufacturing of the existing components, to reduce the "bad" ones, to save money and improve the product. This isn't just for engines either. Every area will be scrutinized.

The engines may be balanced a little better, the rings seat a little tighter, the bearing clearances perfect, etc, etc.

It's also possible that the tune is tweaked. Instead of targeting an a/f ratio of 11.8-1, maybe they are at 11.9-1 or 12.0-1? Just a guess though.

Isn't that problematic for a track car? Every time you hit 88 mph you end up in a different year.
