Budget Drag Radial Setup
I'm looking for a budget wheel/drag radial setup. I know you guys get the question all the time, but I have a v6. Since I don't have the brembos in the rear, I figure I have a greater variety of wheels that'll fit. Maybe I can get a cheaper setup? Just wondering. I also only have bolt ons so I don't think I need a super wide tire to get traction.

I have the stock 18" LT wheels. I swapped from the heritage wheels for the huge amount of weight savings. I'm probably in the 250-260 rwhp range. The car consistently runs 2.1-2.2 60' times. Which is what makes me think I need a stickier tire

What you need is more rwhp. A stickier tire isn't going to help. We've gone 1.8 60's with a stock Pirelli with 370 rwhp. Save your money.

Think so? Even if my car spins everytime I launch?

I've lowered my air pressure as low as 25 psi. I guess I could try a bigger burnout and see what happens. I don't have a video of launch, sorry. I can hear the tires spinning as well as feel it when the car wants to get sideways. I will be going to a better track soon so hopefully that's the problem but we will see. Was just looking for suggestions for something budget friendly.

Save your money....
Treat the tire with ProBlend Hot Lap. It will soften the tread and make your tire hook better. I have been 1.71 60ft with street tires.... |

Not everything is about "needing better track tires". I personally don't like doing burn outs and shit on my tires I drive on every day. Personally I'd like to ge some miles out of em. So for me a track setup it's almost equal parts good traction and not needing to use my daily tires on the track.
So I picked up a set of drag radials that ill be mounting on the stock wheels and swapping them out when I hit the track. |

But if needed get some drags on a 2nd set of 18s.

Regardless is you NEED 'em or not, it's always nice to have a track-only set of wheels/tires. If you want a budget friendly set-up, get a pair of Corvette replica wheels in 18x9.5 (+40 offset), then mount some Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials (305/45R18). You can still drive them to the track.
