Yes the back bumper has a bunch on it. I should get a phone call today about it.

From what you're saying it leads me to think it's not from when the car was painted, somewhere after the car left the plant it got some type of contaminate on the paint.

What exactly did the body shop try to do to remove spots, anything?

He had some chemical that he used. Not sure what it was called. It was in a big barrel. He scrubbed it for a few mins and nothing came up.

Glad its not on yours. I honestly would of been so much more pissed if someone else found this on there camaro. Right now i can make my self believe that this is a one time thing and someone just didnt pay enought attention or something happen after it left the factory.

I need to look up more on the buy back option.

Not to piss anyone off but I don't see this as a problems Chevy caused, how do you get spots on rear bumper cover but not on the front bumper cover. Now I'm basing this on how we did painting at the plant I retired from, also other plants I've visited.
The plant I worked at painted the car separate from the bumper covers, would be nice for someone from the Oshawa plant to chime in and let us know how they do there painting.

No one is saying that i happened when it was first painted, however everyone is saying ( dealership, paint factory) that its under the clear coat.

If he didn't use some kind of rubbing compound maybe it would be worth giving it try, how about post this in the Cosmetic Maintenance: Washing, Waxing, Detailing, Bodywork, Protection section of the forum....maybe there's member in your area willing help you out.......I'd be more then happy to help but you're probably not up too a long drive to Michigan.

Wow that's not good. I wouldn't want those marks on my "new" car either. Make them fix it for sure don't let them give you the run around. You payed for a new car and it should be just that NEW. Give'em hell Good luck to you.

I recommend you do not attempt any kind of repair on your own. Be patient and see what GM is going to do. The last thing you want to do is cause further damage yourself that someone could try to use as evidence that you did something to the paint.

Not too mention you kill your resale, if that matters to the owner. You take your car to be assessed by any CarMax or one of those places, they measure the paint thickness and come back and tell you your car was wrecked at some point, even though it wasn't, and that's why your car is worth way less than book.

If they offer to fix your car instead of replace, I be demanding some sort of depreciation reimbursement. I'll say this, listening to your story and given the fact that I think there was damage done to my car before I purchased it, very minor, I will never buy a new car with out crawling all up and down around and under to inspect it first. I guess I was just excited and skipped that part. And you figure it's warrantied, what's the big deal. Basically from now on before I take delivery again I'm going to play the preposition game with the car. Remember, anything a squirrel can do to a stump right?

I know exactly what it is,I've seen it before......it's from caustic wheel cleaner, believe it or not. I had the same exact thing happen to a car of mine about six years ago when someone was cleaning a big rig upwind from where my car was parked. The mist from the wheel cleaner got on my car & it literally looked exactly like the pics the OP posted.

I'd bet someone at the dealership was cleaning another vehicle & your car was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

And as much as I hate to say this,GM isn't dumb,as someone already posted the mirrors & fascia aren't painted at the same location as the body so they'll know it wasn't a factory defect. Your problem is going to get the dealership to basically eat the cost of your car. No doubt they'll deny it.

Good luck to you.

Really? Did it ever come off? Did you get a new car because of it?

Why would they use a product like this on the wheels if it it could mess up the paint?

Never knew this about wheel cleaning stuff
Most wheel cleaners are caustic (many use sodium hydroxide); so they will eat through your paint and wheel if left on long enough

With all the paint problems with the 2010-2013's you might be better off with a real paint job ?

I never use wheel cleaners, I have a sponge dedicated to cleaning wheels and do them last when washing the cars. I also put the same polish on the wheels as the car (if the wheels are painted) or use other products if they are polished or chrome.

absolutley - when new get them sealed with a polymer sealant, then just soap and water will do, some IronX every quarter to wash off the metallic brake dust...no need for wheel cleaners

ugh, this definitely sounds reasonable. I had a few issues with the paint on my side skirts with some staining. actually looked like the paint was rapidly changing color. took it to the service dept and the guy used some cleaner wax and it took it right off. I guess the cleaners I was using weren't abrasive enough or didn't cut deep enough? at any rate, I certainly know how h\you feel and I keep checking this thread hoping for a good outcome. I've seen how beautifully you keep up your 4th gen so I know how much this means. good luck and keep us posted.

This video was posted in another thread http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...sU&nomobile=1m , starting at about the 16 minute mark you can see that the front and rear bumper covers are not painted with the car body.

With the same problem showing up on one of the bumper covers would indicate the problem didn't happen in the paint shop. It's also hard to believe the problem wasn't caught during paint inspection, I think even Stevie Wonder would have caught it.

All of this tells me it's not under the clear coat, we'll have to wait and see but would at least try to polish out one of the spots to see what happens.....by polish I mean something like Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. JMO
