For the v8 owners who have drag raced
My friend was drag racing last weekend. Said he seen two camaros that both ran in the 14's. He thought they were SS's. I am pretty sure that they would have had to be V6's to run that slow. Anyone out there running 14's with their SS?

Hate to admit, but I havn't broken 13's in my 2SS. Only been to the track once though, and improved my time every run. Ran close to a 14 flat and would guess I could hit mid 13's if I had kept going. Car isn't a 14 second car but I'm not a low 13 sec driver yet either. I had a problem keeping the tires on the ground. There were other SS's there that night too running in the 14's as well. Don't forget there are many variables (DRIVER, weather, track conditions, etc.)

I really think you have to look at the Driver Equation..some people are not going to get the fastest times out of the SS...simply because they lack experience Drag Racing...just because its posted as "supposed" to be hitting a certain time..everyone cant duplicate that same time..take weather track conditions..tire pressure how much gas is in the tank etc..alot of things can slow you down

I don't always think it's a "bad driver". The track is much different than the street and it takes a few times to get accustomed.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone remember when low 14's were considered fast for a stock car?

Hello!
|
I ran 13.8 in mine for the first time at the track...also ran a couple low 14s!
I can see an SS running 14s though as there were several there and other than one other SS, all were in the 14s. It takes more than hp to get good numbers...but the car is more than capable of low 13s and a very good driver can pull high 12s. |

Don't worry its very common to see guys running 14s with new cars in summer conditions. I also see guys with stock LS1 z28s and LS1 WS6 Trans Ams running mid 9s (= to mid 14s) at our local 1/8 mile in summer conditions. And those are easy mid 13 sec cars.
The first time I took my 05 M6 GTO to the track I ran 14.7 in the 1/4 mile. With more seat time (better launch technique) and cooler weather, I eventually got it down in the low 13s. But it was pretty embarrassing running 14s in my new GTO (especially when I expected 13.3 @ 108 mph - GM's advertised time for the LS2 GTO).

Back in '93, LOL!!! ![]() ![]() Driving on the track's a lot different, for me, than on the street. On the street, it was easier to come out of the hole and not bog or blow the tires off; at the track, it was more either spin or bog. The only times I've been relaxed on the track were when I was on DRs and didn't have to worry about much except cutting a good light. Hooking is so much of the race it's not even funny. I can totally see that in my timeslips from that time. I was more consistant and had better RTs. To me, after trying to run the best I could on street tires, I've come to admit all it is is beating up on the car. If you want to run good times, put good tires on the car and have at it. Much else, is not very productive, unless the goal is having fun JMVO.
