Anyone add a forward looking camera on their camaro?
I was at a few dealerships yesterday with the wife looking for our future Camaro (still haven't found the right one) and noticed that the splitter on the 1LE and 2013 Hot Wheels special editions (although it is a bit higher than the 1LE) are pretty low to the ground. The wife and I were both looking at it saying to ourselves "how long will that last with the abnormally high curbs where we live. That got me wondering, has anyone attempted to add a forward looking camera to the factory MyLink system? I thought it would be nice if I had some way to flip it on when parking so I could see just how close the curb is when pulling into a spot in front of a shop etc. Our old 1996 Acura was always getting hung up on the curbs and I think that car sat just a bit higher than the 1LE.
If so, can you tell me approximately what you paid to have it added? Thanks. |

hey there. ya.. besides backing into the spots or having a ground guide... or just "guessing" or kentucky windage.. i worry every time. was a couple idea in the DIY section. i havent committed to anything yet... have a idea of a wireless camera with a separate view screen just having a hard time finding a small lcd screen. .. so far.

If they are anything like the ZL1 splitter, then they are surprisingly hefty. I nailed a curb a couple times when I first got my car. Now I just pull into parking spots really slow and stop with plenty of room. A bigger problem is scraping around speed bumps, dips in roads, and inclines like a driveway. I have to approach all sorts of obstacles at extreme angles. But if you look in the ZL1 forum someone advertises these washer type things that attach to the bottom of the splitter to protect it. Personally, the first couple of scrapes bothered me, but now I don't worry about the bottom where I can't see being a little scratched.

I back into spots with curbs and pull into spots without a curb. If I do pull into a curbed spot then I leave about 2-3 ft distance. I figure pickup trucks are always hanging out a little so can I.
