Curious---What is adequate Daily Driver RWHP

I know will get many different answers, but looking for those guys 550+ to chime in....In all honesty as a daily driver where does the 550+ really come into play?

Currently looking hard at doing a Supercharger along with LS3 conversion. This will be my first 600+ car which never plan on tracking. Its not a Daily Driver, but mainly driven on weekends and attend shows.

In reality is 600+ just not necessary if never tracking?? Is having 600+ with above usage just for bragging rights?? My wife continues to ask, "do you really need 600+" My answer is always YES, but when thinking continue to wonder if doing just for bragging rights and showing off SC under the hood? Lots of dough to shell out.

So curious why do many of you have 600+ cars if you never plan to track. Do you find 600+ in reality is too much on streets and hard on the engine??

mine just made 555 rwhp last week. its a daily driver, and its a much more fun daily driver. oddly enough I am not into the throttle quite as much as I was stock either. but when I want to smile I just hit it...and then I . it doesn't get old.

If I didnt plan on using the HP I probably wouldn't add the HP .. my opinion. I plan to make close to 700whp and drive it occasionally. But that occasionally will be putting the HP to use lol.

I had the magic number of 600 rwhp stuck in my head also. After my dyno tunes and only 8lbs of boost I hit 603/588 with a very conservative tune.. I was happy, I even had extra pulleys to get me to 10lbs of boost if needed. After the dyno, I did a street tune and the car runs as smooth as stock, minus traction of course. I could drive it dailey if I wanted, even the wife can jump in and drive it anytime, but that happens once every leap year..

If I ever get bored, I have more pulleys for up to 650 rwhp... But anything higher than that I will forge the motor first.

My car is a joy to drive around town and on country roads at 640. My goal was SC, cam, and 8lbs or less boost and hp was secondary since I don't go to the track. Of course it is not necessary but you gotta enjoy life.

Totally agree with posts above just finding it so hard letting go of the 12,000 saved. I right there just need to make the first jump. As stated the wife giving a guilt trip. :-)

My wife practicaly cried once she saw the first 10k paypal exchange. Then two cam swaps, 3 sets of wheels, and a crap load of other wasted funds she got over it.

The guilt trips come and go, she still reminds me all the time how much money I put into a car that sits for almost 5 months out the year in up state NY.

Just a FYI, I love everything about it. Shitty day at work and the ride in the car just relaxes me. I loved the car when it was stock but once over 600 it was just a beast and relieves stress like no other. Honestly it keeps me sane, and when it's fish tailing at 70-80 mph instant perma grin. Just like jumping out planes when I was a young paratrooper.

As a daily driver with 500+rwhp, the ability to quickly merge into 45-60mph traffic from a full stop when cars are no more than 3 or 4 seconds apart is something I take advantage of every day.

I'm around 600 in my 1LE and in my opinion it's where the car should be power wise. Being nearly 3900 lbs, it needs all the help it can get. And with the 1LE fitted with F1 Supercar tires, it doesn't spin nearly as easy as the stock tires on the SS, which is slightly disappointing because I love 60-70 mph burnouts as mentioned above. Do it!!! You won't be disappointed.

700rwhp is a good number. Boost by gear is great, or the ability to turn it down when you want less for road course/autox/etc.

When do you need 700? When racing a 600hp car. When you put 4-5 cars on them on a highway pull you will be happy you had 700.

My Vette made 700 (15k miles boosted) and I felt it was perfect for a street car! Drove mostly like stock or I could roast the tires at 70 in 3rd! But even at 600 it was faster than almost everything in the street! That being said I think anything over 800 is out of dd range and more parts break! That and at that level you better do the internals too!

500=fun car
700=fast car
800+= both and more money and down time but INSANELY fast car!!

They're big, heavy ass cars. They start putting a big smile on your face about 600whp. But that's kind of just enough to wet your appetite for racing quicker cars and bikes. Then 7-800 becomes needed to really separate the men from the boys.

Hate to say but 7-800 prob will never see. At that point would really be shelling out the $$$

Part of the reason I finally decided on the 650RWHP target/limit is all the great feedback and experience on these forums from folks that have been here before. ~650 is reported as roughly where you begin to top-out on stock drivetrain, depending of course on how you drive. I went the AGP TT path with a Stage 2C cam+springs. The EBC can take me to a fairly broad range. For DD and occasional road course laps (e.g. no heavy slicks and 1/4 mile hammering) mid 600's is about the last stopping point before you are investing yet another big pile of money.

Why not? Kill Modes car made 680rwhp on a stock L99 auto with AGP kit and 3" exhaust. On a manual that would be 700-720rwhp. That is 91 octane in AZ heat. Add a meth kit and 750rwhp is completely reasonable. That is $8k in parts, maybe another $1000 to have it installed if you have to pay for that. When you don't want 750rwhp turn it down to 5-6psi and enjoy 550rwhp and tons of low end torque.

I drove the car off the lot a couple years ago and thought...this is awesome.

A week later i was bored so i installed headers and SW exhaust....this caused codes to kick out so i took it down to FT worth to get tuned. That was fun for a week.

Went back for a cam and was at 450whp....that was fun for a couple weeks.

Added a D1sc and was up to 637whp....that was fun for a few months.

Added Alky meth, smaller pulley (11psi) and made 715whp. That was real fun, 6 gallons of meth in 6 weeks till my #5 piston let go.

Now have an HKE built LSX 427 with the D1sc at 14 psi(blower is maxed out) and made 758 whp on a Mustang dyno. I've been here for 9 months and now bored again.

Next up, twin turbo at 20-24 psi for an initial goal of 1000whp on 96 octane and meth, with room to go to 1200whp if i get bored at this level

I dont 1/4 mile the car and have no intention to. Maybe a track day at the road course a few times a year, this is primarily what i set the car up for, yeah, i know 758 whp less yet 1100 whp is not needed for a road course. But it should be a blast. Not a daily driver, but it could be.

I dont think it ever ends

My only holding point is thinking $12,000 to go from 380 hp to little over 600 hp. Arrrr decisions decisions...I get right there ready to pull the trigger, but then think I could out in new double din radio, carbon fiber some stuff and go that route.

What worries me if waiting on Super charging is putting more miles on the vehicle. I will never sell it but have been told not good to add on with higher mileage. What does higher mileage mean?? Is 18,000 to much or 30,000 to much to start thinking about conversion and SC

Is that true?

I am at 472 RWHP and loving it. It really is more than enough. Oh I will be upping it though LOL. Put a supercharger headers & exhaust on it. Then go from there. You will not regret it!!!

Honestly I know older ls1 with 80-110k miles on the with blowers going strong. I'm not worried about mileage.. Within 3k miles I already had a cam, full exhaust, and tune. After 3 summers and 22k hard a$$ miles, my car still runs as well as it did before.

But on a side note if your trying to win car shows, invest the money in that. A supercharger and 600 hp doesn't win shows. Stereos, carbon, and Lambo doors does. So your talking two different types of cars. Show car or go car.

I don't buy into that, as long as the car's been maintained well. I had my Maggie installed at 60K miles (after doing cam, bolt-ons, gears and suspension before that). 6K miles later, I still get an evil grin on my face every time I drive it, even running less than 6 psi (for now ). It's more than my stock-width rubber can handle, as well as my stock clutch, so plan on upgrading that too, eventually, if you get blown. I say go for it and never look back, as long as you're prepared to buy tires more often.

700 RWHP is my goal. Street driving and shows. My sig shows current as 460 RWHP, but it's closer to 470. I haven't re-dynoed it yet. It's plenty fun as-is, but I want to add a blower and some other goodies to get to my goal. In time.
