America's Cup

I've sailed for many years.

This boat is simply amazing. I surely can't afford it, however this thing looks like a blast to sail.

I used to sail Hobbie 18's and they where a blast. Last year we went down to the St Maarten and sailed on Stars & Stripes 87 (US 55) which won the cup back from the Aussies. That was a real fun trip.

Yes it was the first episode of this season! It was awesome!!! And, James in the boat won, but it was a long rough ride...

Love sailing btw, Cardinal 46 is my vessel of choice!

I used to sail Lasers a lot, as well as other bigger boats on some longer races (Transpac). Used to crew on a Santa Cruz 50 for quite a while.

I have other things I need to deal with first, but I'm hoping to get back into sailing with something like a J-24 or Moore 24.

Done J boats, they are fun! Dream boat for me would have a windless, and the capability to raise the mainsail, genoa, and spinnaker with the touch of a button. If it could clean itself too that would be nice

Boats are as bad as cars as far as modding goes.

Really? I've never modded a boat. Had a Hacker-Craft built in 2008 (its a gorgeous mahogany speedboat with 16 coats of varnish) that had an 8.1 liter Crusader in it. I suppose I would want to have it blown somehow, but that's not really a good idea, and it was already plenty fast!

Oh here's a pic

Nice boat.

I meant in sailing. When you race, you buy sails. And upgraded rigging. And more sails. And cool new instrument.

Really...hole in the water into which you pour money.

Haha yeah, sailboat was built in 1988 and still has original electronics in many places! It's a mirical they still work.

Do you have any idea what the hull speed is on those America's Cup boats?

I've heard speeds of 40 to 50 knots. They don't use spinnakers because they go so fast that the apparent wind is always too far forward to hold the chute.

Interestingly, the boat was built near Seattle in Anacortes, where my mom lived.

Btw, where do you usually sail? My guess if you're in Seattle is the Puget Sound. I'm in the Long Island Sound

I haven't crewed for quite a while, actually. Last time was 5 years ago, and that was near Tacoma. Previous to that, Lake Washington for Lasers, and occasionally Puget Sound. For larger boats, most of my sailing was done up near Whidbey Island, Everett and Bellingham.

Despite being docked 2 points, Team Oracle (USA) has made an amazing comeback to tie the series at 8-8, with the final and deciding race to happen today (most likely).
