best way to repair hood wrap rock chip
On the way to a Rolex Grand Am event at the Lime Rock, CT course. Truck in front of me tossed several large rocks at the same time. One hit the hood and left a small tear in the wrap before bouncing up on the windshield. Did not damage the paint under the warp. What is the best way to repair a small tear in the hood wrap?? Also, can the hood wrap be covered with anything to protect it from future encounters with rocks, etc.?

I used flat black testors model paint. Clip off the standing vinyl around the chip and dip in with toothpick. I don't notice it unless I look for it. As for protecting it, you're screwed.

I wonder if plasti dip would match up. It looks pretty close.

The material to rewrap it runs about $100. Not worth protecting. Just be happy the vinyl protected your hood from those rocks

And just remember if you use black paint to touch it up you are applying it to the factory red paint UNDER the wrap. You may be screwed if you ever take the hood wrap off and now need to figure out how to remove the paint you added.

I've used plasti-dip on vinyl hood chips - worked great! Color matched well and it's holding up great.
